Hundreds of Palestinian children were detained in horrific conditions after October 7. This would be necessary for 'the right to defend ourselves' how, exactly?

It's all so relatable. All things that I wish I had the force of will to throw myself into when I was young. And maybe, just maybe, I'm doing the same job of projection that other folks do when they say "Kurt Cobain was trans!!" Probably not.. but maybe. 🤔

Btw, this goes far beyond his high pitch. It's his violent temper when people thought his mannerisms might suggest he's gay when he only dates women, damnit!! It's in the forced masculine attitudes of his upbringing, his resistance in the face of an angry father who tried to make him a man..

If Democrats think winning back congress this year and the presidency in 2028 is enough, they are sorely mistaken. We'll be right back where we're at in 2032 with an even more fascist and white supremacist Republican party. It's not enough to win power.

there are many reasons to express something outwardly that we don't feel inwardly. conformity is one, as with my closeted period. a statement opposing conformity is another, as with political lesbianism all of that is a perfectly fine way to exist in the world but I agree, it's a different thing

identity inherently includes the duality of inner feeling and outer expression. but I agree, it's true that one is primary was I trans during the decades I spent in the closet? I say yes is somebody who chooses to express as the opposite gender despite not feeling it inwardly also trans? maybe not

TBH, no Conservative government could have gotten away with quietly gutting trade unionism the way Carney did. Labour leaders and liberal journalists would never have let it happen without a massive fight. Sheep's clothing is a useful disguise. 🐑

Workers are losing their right to strike and Canada is being sold for parts so naturally Canada’s columnist class is focused on what really matters: Why the only prominent progressive voice in politics right now is Evil for criticizing a literal genocide
Robyn Urback, sharing her Globe op-ed, writes: “Avi Lewis' foolish statement should be disqualifying for the leader of a major political party.
However, because he is leader of the NDP, and because his target was Jews, it very well could boost his internal support by five points.”Gary Mason, another prominent Globe and Mail columnist, shares Robyn’s post and writes: “This is the best and most important piece I have read today. My colleague nails it. I hope Avi Lewis reads it and responds appropriately.”Stephen Maher, sharing Robyn’s op-Ed (which is titled ‘Opinion: Avi Lewis's foolish statement on 'Jewish people' should be disqualifying’) writes: “I think Lewis is in many ways impressive, and Carney is creating conditions for an NDP revival, but I must agree with this.”

Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop. You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.

This is the truth. Every Democratic candidate must choose either party funding or human decency. They can’t have both. A handful can choose decency while relying on grassroots fundraising and organising, such as through their local DSA, but those are few and the media is ruthless towards them.

I hate this shit. 20ish years ago, we collectively decided to stop using the word "gay" as a generalised pejorative. But liberals still love using the concept of being gay, especially of being *gasp* a bottom, as a generalised insult without blinking an eye. It's the same thing.

There's a difference between deflecting from an issue and acquiescing to oppositional framing. Abdul El-Sayed, for example, has successfully deflected when pressured on trans rights, but he has not accepted the framework. Most other democrats have adopted GOP framing, thus justifying their attacks.

Too many Democrats concede as "fact" the stereotype-driven propaganda that far-right groups like the Alliance Defending Freedom have promoted: that trans athletes at all ages and forever have a competitive advantage and that safety, even, is at issue. A long body of research disproves these claims

normalising legally mandated segregation, huh? what's such a big deal about that?? (say folks who have been convinced that trans people are less deserving of civil rights protections than other communities) amazing how quickly the normalisation occurred, and then how quickly it spread

I do not believe MAHA can be reduced to any single factor, and trying to reduce it is to miss the forest for the trees It's a classic example of how fascist politics work: channelling vague fears about social decline into conspiracism and simplistic faux-solutions that masquerade as "anti-elitism"
000
Jayne Fracture @jaynefracture.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
replies like this are interesting to me. they speak to an unwillingness to address the text of an argument I was speaking about broad opposition to profit-driven deregulation, how fascists channel that opposition into reactionary nonsense, and about how socialists can channel it into real solutions
000
Jayne Fracture @jaynefracture.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
you're speaking about one prominent angle within vaccine scepticism. it's a problem. obviously why would you assume that I'm speaking about that particular false link? I doubt AOC has tried to make that link? I'm speaking broadly about fears that emerge from distrust of profit-driven deregulation
101
Jayne Fracture @jaynefracture.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
This doesn't have to follow that pattern She can acknowledge fears that underlay the MAHA movement, while offering genuine solutions Public healthcare, regulation of food supply, and increased environmental protections, are all valuable policies, and all present an effective contrast to the GOP
100
Jayne Fracture @jaynefracture.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I'm not offering a blanket defence of AOC's strategy I've often felt that she's been quick to compromise her messaging on important issues for the sake of securing links with oppositional viewpoints. "Working tirelessly to secure a cease-fire" is the most prominent example, but there are others
100
Jayne Fracture @jaynefracture.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
This is close, but not quite on the money Fascist politics depend on channelling genuine fears, while pointing toward fake solutions We can't adopt far right framing but there's a danger in dismissing underlying fears. Disarming fascist talking points is an art. It's difficult, but it's necessary

I don't think the 'cult deprogramming' argument works for public figures! If you're a regular person, listening empathically to your anti-vaxx aunt is fine. If you're a public official speaking to millions, though, the message has to be "MAHA is killing kids," not "MAHA has some good points."

The Trump gov't has had the goal of destroying what's left of liberal democracy, to move towards fascistic rule. Yeah, it's a fascist regime, but not yet a fascist state. Fortunately, they've made LOTS of mistakes. But my god.. imagining what full fascism would look like with modern technology.. ☠️

Calvin and Hobbes really called it, didn’t they?
A black and white drawing from a Calvin and Hobbes strip. They are sitting together on a tree branch. Calvin says, with a furrowed brow, “isn’t it sad how some people’s grip on their lives is so precarious that they’ll embrace any preposterous delusion rather than face an occasional bleak truth?”
