I see Nintendo has decided on the Zelda 40th anniversary site to state that BotW and TotK are entirely separate from the rest of the series, despite numerous references to Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and others in both. Hey Nintendo, it's okay. You can have this one on me.

And the Pro Controller! That's a beautiful thing. I think that's going to end up being a birthday or Christmas pressie rather than something I'll treat myself to.

The amiibos are cute. I may get the Young Zelda one since I have Young Link from the Smash Bros collection. I hope the older Zelda amiibos have funny unlockables too.

This is particularly good for me because I don't like playing the Ocarina in-game on anything that's not the N64 face buttons or GameCube configuration. But I have learned the ocarina melodies on keyboard/melodica, so I will be tooting my merry heart out.

The main things I'm excited for are, oddly, the music. In terms of both the orchestral concerts and the fact that Ocarina lets you use an instrument or Zelda Notes to play songs. And write songs with Zelda notes! Wow!

I finally watched the Zelda Direct. I expected less Ocarina and more movie, but I'm satisfied with what I've seen.

I've been thinking about Four Job Fiesta in the shower. What if I'd made everyone's secondary ability Jump... And they all jumped at the same time to dodge Almagest... And I could've won in the daftest way possible? The absolute larp of this fake Kain Highwind fan for not thinking of that sooner.

I admit, if I'd been more dedicated, I could've done more level/Chicken Knife grinding and improved my chances. However, no amount of grinding mitigates Berserker being utter shite. Four Job Fiesta is a great initiative and a fun concept, but it royally screwed me over. I'll stick to Pokémon runs.

Berserker really is the millstone of this run when it comes to (Neo) Exdeath. If a party member is hit by White Hole or Grand Cross, it takes the other three to revive, restore health, and cure status effects. Having one party member unavailable to do that and very prone to whiffing attacks is hell.

I can sometimes survive an Almagest, with one or two characters, but then I'm on the back foot while he keeps attacking. Maybe I need to do an attempt where I just heal with items and let Berserker and Dragoon have Aegis shields? It's risky...

The good news is I changed my tactics a bit and beat Necrophobe. The bad news is I don't have a consistent strategy for surviving Neo Exdeath, reviving KO'd characters, curing status effects, and healing. He just unleashes way too much bullshit at a time.

Dragoon does okayish with Rapid Fire as a frontline DPS, but yeah, getting 'zerked on my first Fiesta is rough. 🪦 Maybe if I have someone else with Black Magic as a secondary skill to act as a substitute healer and have my Black Mage be the main damage dealer I might have half a chance?

It amuses me that the GBA & DS versions of Panel de Pon are called Puzzle League, even though that name comes from the N64 version being a Pokémon spinoff and the newer versions have nothing to do with Pokémon. I wonder how things might have been if Henk said no and NOA had to use a different name.

I'm going to have to be realistic about my chances here. I can't defeat Necrophobe with this party, Neo Exdeath is just as busted, and I have only five days to grind enough that I have the slightest semblance of a chance. I think it's ogre.

Hello naughty children it's unwinnable luck based boss time. So my win condition for Necrophobe is I need a Black Mage with the Reflect ring to cast Death on herself and hope to RNGesus that it targets the barriers and not Necrophobe himself. The Assassin's Knife and Death Sickle won't help.

Or, as luck would have it, have Black Mage be alive in the 2nd phase to cast normal Death. Good.

In that time span, I have to switch Assassin's Knife onto whoever is still alive (probably Ranger) and pray to RNGesus that instant death hits. If it doesn't, I am fucked.

With only one Coral Ring, I basically have to muddle through the first phase. Fine. Dragoon can jump, Ranger can use the Artemis Bow. Hope the Aegis Shield procs. Get to the second phase and it gives me 0.2 seconds between charging and unleashing Gigaflare.

I finally got off my arse, ground Bartz, Faris, and Krile to Lv. 41, and beat him. I may need to get a real move on if I'm going to finish this run by the end of August.

Speaking of optional bosses, fuck Azulmagia, man. There ought to be a warning that says "Do Not Attempt This Boss If You Are Lv. 40" or something. Lv. 2 Old and Lv. 5 Death are some bullshit.
