If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

An expert at the University of Copenhagen said his team had been sharing its research with the company’s A.I. model, Claude, and that its new finding matched their work.

Metabolic processes shape microbial interaction distributions
Microbial communities are largely driven by metabolic interactions, whereby species compete for shared resources and exchange byproducts. Such interactions are commonly classified by their sign alone....

Brightest and most unblended transitions of erythrulose observed toward the G+0.693 molecular cloud. Filled histograms report the observed spectra, red lines show the line profiles of the erythrulose transitions fitted with Madcuba-SLIM, and blue lines present the total fit to the spectra considering all the molecules identified toward the cloud. The quantum numbers of each transition of erythrulose are given in the upper part of each panel. In blue, we also label the molecular species contributing to the observed spectra in the vicinity of the erythrulose lines. The transitions are sorted from the brightest to the weakest lines according to the LTE model.
