One way I choose to remember today is a re-watch of the musical "Come from Away" (on Apple, I think). 25yrs ago, a small Canadian town offered refuge for thousands stranded when US airspace closed. Caring for neighbors - kindness - is how we survive crisis together. comefromaway.com/story.php

Sailing small boats. Not a racer, so nothing expensive. Small boats really reward being present, focusing on the right now, and solving small problems. They also quickly punish worrying about the office or meandering thoughts. Often with an unexpected jibe or a tap from the boom - as I'm learning.

Unreasonable to mute a certain event in my socials and news? It's the 25th and all, but, as a NYer attending college in another east coast city, I have clear pre/post memories. The fires lit that day are still burning. Kind of feel okay with ignoring the misdirected nostalgic gaze this time around.

Today I learned that transferring to a US flight from within Canada is essentially a new security screening with its own rules. Sadly, a highly anticipated jar a maple butter paid the price of my ignorance. Trying really hard to not let it ruin an otherwise lovely trip to Ottawa.
Airplane view of Ottawa. Light sun showers are rolling in from the right side of the photo. The Air Canada logo is visible in the wing tip.An oversized hockey puck and and a metallic sculpture mimicking a chalace or cup that one can walk through commemorate the creation of Lord Stanley's CupA statue of a first nations hunter draws and arrow from a quiver while in a kneeling shooting stance. Their bow faces a deer maybe 20 meters away. The deer is also statue, but located in a well maintained urban thicket.

Finally got to fly in a turboprop!
A twin engine Dash-4 propeller plane sits on a runway. A door with a built-in ladder for passengers is open. It feels like traveling back in time to 1930s flying (minus copious alcohol and the haze of cigarettes).

Unrelated to nearly everything - the hummingbirds are back! We've been in a low-key drought during this heatwave and hadn't seen the resident ruby-throated hummingbirds. Got a small amount of rain and they're back.
A little green hummingbird sits perched on a bright red hummingbird feeder. Probably a ruby-throated hummingbird according to the Merlin bird app. Water droplets from the first rain in a week cover everything except the bird. An out of control sage bush is just out of focus behind all the action. First sighting of the resident hummingbirds after a long week of hot and dry weather during the July 4 heatwave.
