Conducting oral histories in Texas music requires patience, nuance, and keen judgment in order to separate fact from rumor and lore, but, sometimes, the truth is slowly revealed. Like, did Ted Nugent really shit in the guacamole backstage that one time? Answer: Yes, yes he did.

'History is a Human Craft'. In piece about ethics, our classrooms and AI, I suppose I've put up my barricades and drawn my lines. I suggest 8 'considerations' before we do any teaching with AI. This is part of a new @royalhistsoc.org short series on 'AI and History Teaching' in Transactions.

Me, exasperated, in conversation about AI: “Has no sensory experience and so cannot know or have insight. Just a tool, often wrong, devoid of wisdom.” Me, when my wife asks me to clean out the pen drawer: “I can never, ever throw out a pen before it’s time. It still may have something to say!”

100% this. "You just need to tell your stories better" - no, we don't. Our stories are clear, obvious, and awesome. The people who could fund the humanities won't and aren't open to changing their minds

the way to understand a piece like this from schmitz is that he lives in an urban, cosmopolitan millieu and the popularity of country music is a novelty to him. and so to explain it, he has to fit it into his volkish conception of america, whether or not that makes any actual sense.

Thankful today and every day for my Texas State Employees Union. They’ve been a tremendous source of solidarity in these trying times, and if you work for or are a retiree of the State of Texas, I highly encourage joining the family. Could use a few extra sets of hands heading into the fall!
