when everyone can generate anything with a prompt, how do you stand out? most app promo videos I see are indistinguishable from each other (because they were likely made w/the same basic prompt) the only way to stand out is to care and to put actual effort into what you make. been true. still true
LinkedIn screenshot of Todd Morey's post, which begins, "Life comes at you fast. I've been so flooded by animated demo videos I can't scroll past them fast enough. That's mostly because they don't demo anything about the product; they only demo the motion design Al is now capable of.
(Linkedin became a rave club over the last 10 days. My eyes...)
Now that Al has built decent competence in motion design, a flashy promo video is just another Al tell. So... what's next? love the art and craft of motion..."

Below, Jason has commented, "My hunch is that 'obviously made by human hands' is going to start carrying a 'premium quality' association even more than it used to.

"At CodeTV we've been leaning into practical effects (physically creating visual assets, moving the camera to 'animate' them, interacting with 3D props vs. having animated illustrations flying around the screen) to give more personality and perceived weight to videos.

"Al and other low-effort video gives the sense of, 'They didn't care at all about the quality of this. I wonder if they care about the quality of their product?'

"Going the other way with content sends the right signals, I think: 'Wow, these folks care! They're willing to do a harder thing because it produced a better result.'

"Feels like the best approach when everyone's smashing the Easy Button™ over and over again is to actually give a shit about quality."

this is what a fresh list looks like for me. left page is for meeting notes, quick thoughts, etc. this is my Goldilocks Zone for task management. any less and I feel panicky like I'm forgetting things; any more and I feel like I'm spending more time organizing the todos than I am doing the work
the same TODO page from before, but with the columns filled in. roughly 25 items are written into the left column with most of the content blurred. 8 items are written in the leads column and blurred. 13 items are written in the active projects column and blurred. a pen with the CodeTV logo is laid across the opposite page

Jason Lengstorf @jason.energy · 18/09/2026
maybe this is only interesting to me, but after 20+ years of trying to optimize TODO list management, this is the only format I've found sustainable - pen and paper (slow, requires consideration) - TODO items in the main column - leads and active projects in smaller sub-sections
fresh notebook page with two columns: left two thirds have the header, "TODO Sep 17", right third is split vertically into two sections: one with header "LEADS" and one with header "ACTIVE PROJECTS". a pen with the CodeTV logo is laid on top of the page. a black SSD drive with "CODETV" written on it in white paint pen is laid on the opposite page of the notebook as a paperweight

my stress levels directly map to how long its been since I hand-wrote a todo list. I talk myself out of it sometimes ("I don't have time!" "I'll remember!"), then bounce between email, chat, the Untitled-2 tab in my IDE where I jotted a quick reminder, etc. while the cortisol rises to drown me
extreme closeup of a notebook with a handwritten list on the page. "TODO" is written at the top, with items that run off of frame but start with words like "Respond", "Launch", "Send", "Contact", and "Follow Up". A pen is laid across the page with part of the CodeTV logo printed on it

a LOT of people work behind the scenes to make a show like The Full Stack possible. this is what you don't see on camera

the tech industry can be tough, but if you look for them, there are bright spots. making The Full Stack was a great reminder of that for me

when I see people get morally superior because they have a certain set of data memorized, I like to swap out the data set to see how ridiculous it sounds "oh, you don't know [every word to Garth Brooks's 1993 album In Pieces]? you charlatan!"

The Full Stack is NOT a coding competition: it's about building a full product from idea to production to launch. all 8 ideas are really interesting — which one do you think has the best chance to win?

Jason Lengstorf @jason.energy · 23/07/2026
a demo + build a full project. in last week's series premiere, 8 teams pitched their ideas. 7 teams made it to this week. now they have to make the idea real by building a prototype to convince the judges they understand their idea — and their audience — well enough to continue in the competition

making your idea real. that means choosing what to work on, and what not to work on. narrowing down from what's possible to what's practical. turning the raw potential of the idea into a concrete first step in this new series, The Full Stack, we wanted to explore what it takes to go beyond…

in the early stages of a company, you start with an idea. Ideas are fun because they're not bound by inconvenient things like practicality or time — you can just imagine what you want to be true and bask in the endless possibilities to take the next step, though, you have to do the hard part of…

a very cool thing about this teaser / intro / ident for The Full Stack is that we shot the whole thing practically. the only computer graphics in this are "AWS presents" and "a CodeTV production" — everything else was made entirely with colored light, cut plexiglass, and a camera

I have another @standard.site question: how do we support multiple authors? the validator says documents must belong to the same DID as the publication, but... how do we specify who the author is, then? for example, @codetv.dev has a blog but the post is written by me — how does that work?

this last few months has been pure growth: figuring out complex logistics for location shoots w/road closures + car rentals; learning to delegate as productions get bigger; getting better at building large arced narratives and it still feels like I’m barely scratching the surface of what’s possible
