Last day of holiday and the allotment has put on a lovely show after the welcome rain. I can relax and enjoy this because for the first time ever I have managed to send my accountant my tax return before he’s chased me for it 😁 #flowers

Gorgeous evening for a plot walk. THE ARTIST’S HOUSE is already scratching at the inside of my skull desperate to get out. But it will have to wait until my Cornish gothic tale of saffron growing and supernatural goings on in the Lizard Peninsula is honed and ready to go to my editor. #books 💙📚

To make up the pain of a shingles vaccine, I struck out from the surgery across a network of footpaths and down to the sea. Beautiful views, swifts and swallows, stonechats and wrens; a pair of inquisitive llamas - and a far smaller chance of shingles, dementia, stroke and heart attack! #Cornwall

Delighted to be invited by George RR Martin to the opening night of The Mad King at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford. What a sublime spectacle of a play - a gorgeous mix of ASOIAF with the history plays and tragedies, with fabulous puppetry and staging, a great cast and a fine script.

Consumed by immense edits and with my own redraft to be delivered in a terrifyingly short time - but this morning I managed to get my arse in gear for breakfast on the allotment before chaining myself to the screen once more. Bliss. #books 💙📚

Very proud to learn that SECRETS OF THE BEES has been shortlisted for best novel in the Holyer An Gof awards - the Cornish Gorsedh. This is my state of the nation novel, with a proper old cantankerous Cornishman - my beloved Ezra - at the heart of it all. #books 💙📚

We had a fabulous visit to Rabat to attend the King’s birthday party at the British Embassy where I discovered that the ambassador and his wife are fans of the books, especially THE BLACK CRESCENT. It’s our 21st wedding anniversary this year, so we stayed in the stunning Villa Mandarine. 💙📚 #books

I have, at last, completed HEART OF SAFFRON, my latest venture into Cornish gothic - oh, the relief! Now comes the hard work of applying my arm-length list of go-back points, ruthless honing, checking consistency and (screams silently) timelines. But hooray: the first draft is done! #books 💙📚

So proud to see Voyager shortlisted for Imprint of the Year. I’m still working for the list I launched in 1995, at arm’s length these days, and it’s wonderful to see it go from strength to strength under the brilliant leadership of Natasha Bardon, who is also nominated as Editor of the Year. #books

World Book Day coincides with St Piran's Day! Love and war, gothic and humour, batty old ladies and grumpy old men, desert heroes and harems and gorgeous food. The odd bestseller, many languages. Books are magic: your images fly into other people's heads, where they transform and bloom. 💙📚 #books

So, in launching a huge bombing campaign on Iran they apparently didn't plan for: - Who takes over; - Interceptor shortages from sustained drone retaliation; - How to defend US bases in the region; - Threats to ships in the Strait of Hormuz; and - How to evacuate Americans with airspace closed.

Made a dash into Truro to sign a huge pile of the pb of SECRETS OF THE BEES. It felt apt on such an historic day for the Green Party, the novel being a heartfelt cry to protect our natural environment, the true and ancient Cornwall, from less scrupulous forces. Great to know it’s selling so well! 💙📚

Photo shows a room full of scientists all wearing ffp2/3 respirators of different colours and types.

Curious to see THE WHITE HARE become 'The Storm House' in German. Weirdly, the cover would fit the current work-in-progress better. The fictional Penhallow House in HEART OF SAFFRON is originally Tudor, but one side has a Palladian frontage tacked on - it's a novel about deceptions and facades. 💙📚

The calm after the storm. Good to see life thriving after our hurricane-force winds. There's been so much damage in Cornwall, 1000s trees down, roofs lost, and one poor man crushed by a fallen tree. But the birds and even butterflies are out, as is the sun, the butterbur and the gorse. #cornwall
