Last week I saw Ana Mendieta at #TateModern and had what felt like a transcendental encounter. The themes in her art exploring ephemeralities & permanences of human - particularly female - essences through time are v. close to so much I've been working on for the past few years with #Matriarcha 1/n
Photo of a framed photo showing a sand sculpture, formed of two paired oval shapes, pointing towards each other with a circle at the top. The effect is of a giant female firm distilled to its curved essence. Photo of a painting done with fingers, on bark cloth. The black painting looks like a figure, made up of many lines continuously drawn with a finger. The top of the body is a kind of bridge shape, the bottom a huge spiral. Photo of two massive sculptures made from tree trunks, with the shapes of a human figure burned into then with gunpowder. Photo of a mixed media piece. A rectangular section of thick paper is covered by hair-like grasses, over which is a scorched impression of a human hand, made with a heated iron cast of Mendieta's own hand.

Two pendants made from slices of amethyst crystals, set on a block of California walnut. The larger pendant is hung from a rope chain and the smaller one is hung from a long oval paper clip style chain. Top view of my table that has a vintage Art in America magazine with a wood bowl on top of it. There’s also a vintage square ceramic plate that has a handmade basket on top of it (basket holds my assorted coasters), a ceramic bowl by Sunja Park decorated with abstract green and yellow splotches, and a vintage Arabia vase with a bunch of red double petal tulips inside of it These are the amethyst crystal slices before they were set. The ones set in first pic are the large one in the back of the photo and the smaller one on the far right side. They’re stunningly beautiful - especially when set on 14K yellow gold :)Side view of my table with vintage green Arabia pot in the front holding the red tulips along with the ceramics, basket, and wood bowl
