I think the last one of those is a bigger piece than most people are ready to admit. There’s a weak market for economy cars in the US because that customer base is under so much financial pressure elsewhere in life that they’re not generally shopping new cars in the first place. The poor get poorer.

a piece of it. There is no one cause. Some of it is people over-buying for their lifestyle. Some of it is people wanting to feel safe. Some is product bloat and exploiting federal regulations to drive economy shoppers upmarket. Some is the now-fucked finances of the economy segment customer too.

1+2 are a much earlier iteration of the concept. 3 wasn’t properly localized and is kind of a bonus. Any of the PS2-era “holy trinity” and 7 are fine as entry points. 8 too, it’s a pretty approachable series on the whole.

I just might. One of the guys I did my ASE course with managed a Meineke, then did fleet for an international airport, and now is back to small vehicles because HD was hard on his body. I’m considering returning to auto media as indie, I’ll reach out if I get to this subject.

I was considering a deep-dive on this at one point. Even in technical school, the red flags are there and they fly at full mast. And all those mechanic scholarships you read about automakers offering? That’s to work at dealers, who we know are awful top to bottom.
