Repeats! Seems there was one in 2023 (a lesbian couple, one of whom died), and then none until 2012, which had three.

Oh please do! I apparently missed one same sex couple in recent years (sadly one died during filming so wasn't in the thumbnails I checked), but otherwise there seem to have been none since 2012, which feels like quite a weird quirk :)

I absolutely don't think there's a homophobe sitting somewhere vetoing them, but it's a weird little quirk

From 2012 though, which I regret to inform everyone was not in the last decade...

I was going by the thumbnails and so if only one appeared in that I'd miss it, so v possible there – definitely wouldn't want to deliberately exclude someone because they died!

Very unclear what this is, because the U.S. military…already has a robust chaplaincy corps? This has been true literally since the U.S. military was created 251 years ago — technically, before the U.S. even declared independence?

A mad hubristic building project does not seem out of character for quite a few of the homosexuals I know, is all I'm saying.

One mildly fascinating thing about this show: it seems to be the most heterosexual thing on television. I've just scrolled through the last decade of the show to confirm my hunch and not one same-sex couple! Do gays just not go in for the whole mad self-building thing?

As per my previous blogging about real history being age-gated, a folk song merely about the 1966 Aberfan disaster now requires age verification. Which is a fairly awful irony. Chapeau @cjforms.bsky.social

Yes, an information vacuum is bad. But throwing out tiny morsels that invite speculation every 8-12 hours while offering no actual narrative or explanation might be the one thing that's worse.

At this point I would honestly prefer that the UK authorities said nothing on this than they kept dribbling out cryptic clues like it's a murder mystery evening. "What if I told you one of them rang 999 himself?" "We've bailed them, but it's still Iran, what might that mean?" Not. Helpful.

The first 15 minutes were a bit hallmark for me. Lots of platitude. But it built very well, and the emotional bits actually tied the policy story together in a way they often don't. I think it's far from technically perfect, but there's some clever thought behind it

We rightly give Home Office ministers a hard time here for many things, but in their defence, not one of them has ever ordered the Identity & Passport Service to mail out passports in envelopes that might as well be printed with the words ‘Important identity document enclosed: please steal’.

Amateur hour: even if you hate the proposal, you surely join the commission, play spoiler, and engineer a reason to walk out that makes the government bad or factional (insist on including party finance reforms Labour would hate, etc) Just saying "no" outright is surely what Burnham *wanted*.

I am from Yorkshire. I have listened to far too many political speeches. I favour the practicalities over poetry every time. In other words, I'm a tough crowd. And yet…that Burnham speech really did have a certain something, didn't it?
