Interesting data. As noted in the report, the need trend for privately rented homes is unlikely to reverse. Renting can provide a stable home for families (it does internationally), so how best to improve the choice, quality and reliability of this for people across affordability spectrum in UK?

This trend is real, and is likely to have continued still further since 2024. It’s also unlikely to reverse without significant delivery of additional homes right across the tenure spectrum. This needs to include purpose-built rental homes that actually suit more people’s circumstances.

It’s now become too big to address - not to mention too costly and lengthy. As long as they can find other countries to blame who are being more reckless than ourselves, that seems to be sufficient… 🥵🤷‍♂️ PS: A different government would probably be worse, so that sort of change is not the answer…

Good post, and I agree that this issue needs fuller review. As the demand for flexibility grows - for a range of entirely valid personal and economic reasons - it’s surely reasonable for a city to provide for such needs? More long-term accommodation is no doubt also needed - let’s deliver that too!

Pragmatic, not dogmatic. Delivery across all tenures had effectively evaporated, so something needed to change. To be broadly welcomed, although overdue and not a panacea. Relieved, rather than celebrating. Detail to be examined and subject to consultation / amendment before it's implemented.

Puzzled by this - why is it being presented as a simplistic ‘either/or’ choice? The reality of every funeral I’ve experienced is neither extreme sombreness nor a joyous party, but a blend of sorrow, gratitude and celebration of a person who was cherished. All elements are important to be included.
