Yet another report you won't see in the #NYTimes. But it was in @haaretzcom.bsky.social, #Israel's paper of record. A suggestion to the top brass at the #NYT, the Washington Post and CNN: poach Haaretz staff and run their reports -- instead of your usual whitewashes. @mondoweiss.net

Trump’s intervention in Brazilian elections undermines a basic and generally cherished right to self-determination, as well as the right to democracy itself. It is even clearly illegal under the Charter of the Organization of American States, to which the US is a signatory.

Gone are the mass raids and militarized metro operations. Gone are the pomp and pageantry. But ICE arrests have hit record levels. ICE operations are no longer concentrated in large American cities. Immigration enforcement officials are also working in suburban and rural areas, all across the US.

Free journalist Luis Galeano from ICE detention! www.freepress.net/download/coa...
Top of letter: Press-Freedom Coalition Sounds Alarm on ICE Detention of Asylum-Seeking Journalist Luis Galeano, Calls for His Immediate Release September 18, 2026 We, a coalition of 15 civil-society and press-freedom organizations, condemn the arrest and detention of renowned Miami-based journalist Luis Galeano by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). We urge his immediate release and for his pending asylum case to proceed. Galeano was detained on September 14, 2026, while working as a rideshare driver to support his primary role as director of the news outlet Café con Voz. Galeano came to the United States in 2018, having been exiled from Nicaragua after the Ortega-Murillo regime stripped nearly a hundred journalists of their Nicaraguan citizenship as penalty for covering the totalitarian tactics of the Nicaraguan government. Galeano’s reporting in Nicaragua consistently elevated the human rights abuses of the Sandinista government. Since arriving in the United States, Galeano has conducted Spanish-language reporting for Miami and wider communities throughout Florida. He has a Social Security number and a work permit, with a pending asylum case filed nearly seven years ago. The U.S. government’s targeting and detention of Galeano are a troubling escalation of attacks on journalists and media workers, particularly immigrant journalists, who consistently provide much-needed journalism and civic information for their communities. In the case of Galeano, there are severe dangers should the U.S. government seek to ignore his asylum case and move to deport him. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) withdrew temporary protected status (TPS) for Nicaraguan immigrants starting in July 2025. That would mean any unfounded punitive actions taken against Galeano that might lead to his deportation could very well place him in dire circumstances upon return to Nicaragua, where he was a vocal leader in the press community advocating for human rights.

“The key takeaway from [Wyden] report: Epstein couldn’t have carried out his trafficking and criminal activity without the help of the highest ranking employees and executives at the most powerful banks in the world. Wall Street is complicit in Epstein’s crimes from top to bottom.” @wyden.senate.gov
Trump-Epstein files Ron Wyden tweet meme 7/17/25: https://twitter.com/ronwyden/status/1945864024672919592?s=46‬

‪“Big news from my investigators on Epstein's sex trafficking operation: the Trump administration has an Epstein file detailing 4,725 wire transfers and almost $1.1 billion flowing through just one of his banks. Hundreds of millions more through others.‬

‪“The Trump administration claims it doesn't have enough evidence to investigate. If you ask me, that’s 4,725 lines of investigation right there. And that should only be the start of it.‬

‪“Epstein had to pay for all his sex trafficking somehow. Further evidence shows he used Russian banks to process hundreds of millions in payments. Again, this is info in the possession of the Trump administration, but they’re refusing to investigate.”‬

‪For more, read the 7/17/25 NYT article: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/17/business/epstein-banks-wyden-trump.html ‬

Ron Wyden tweet meme found here: https://bsky.app/profile/lachevron.bsky.social/post/3msgqvcrym22y

Wyden: I think it’s certainly well over a billion dollars.
