Some before and after footage of the trial closures of Lena and Paton Street.

Walk from Manchester Piccadilly much improved with the closure of Lena & Paton street. Two minor roads that drivers use to rat run to the NQ, avoiding main roads. Manchester Piccadilly sees 27m annual users & they shouldn't have to dodge cars walking to the station. Hopefully this becomes permanent.

Watched The Odyssey in an open air cinema in Peloponnese, Greece. An epic film which grapples with moral consequences. I got the impression people enjoyed it. The Greeks I was with thought it was very good.

England’s first cycle street is open for use 🚴 🌳 Adam’s Road provides a safer, greener, better-connected route designed for the thousands of people who use it every day, whether walking, wheeling or cycling, with final works continuing over the coming weeks.
Cyclists ride along a wide red-surfaced cycle lane on Adams Road, Cambridge, with green hedges lining the path and a bright blue sky with scattered clouds overhead. The lane markings for bicycles are visible, and the Greater Cambridge Partnership logo appears in the top corner of the image.

I cycled phase 1 of the Wilmslow Handforth cycle path, its alright. Better than the share paths in the area. I read people have seen school children use it, that is good to hear.

Hatters Yard (148 flats) opposite Weir Mill (253 flats) in Stockport is starting to go up. Due to complete 2028. Once both finished that could be 1200 people living a short stroll away from the centre of Stockport. Which can only be very good for the economy of the town centre.

Wonderful to see the Heaton Mersey Common scheme now completed. You would not believe the hostility this created among some of my neighbours back when the scheme was consulted on.

I saw this bike outside my local supermarket. It's a thing of beauty. A converted old Orange mountain bike frame with a 1 x. The young lad had put a lot of effort and attention into building this. He let me pick it up, felt really light, about 8kg. TPU tubes on. A really nice everything bike.

I find the sort of people who flytip are usually the worst people in existence in terms of how they view the world and everything in it. We need to start making serious examples of people who do this.

This point closure on a Quiet Lane in Tameside shows what's possible if you are serious about making rural roads safer, more enjoyable and *quieter* for non-motorised users and residents. Hint hint, Stockport Council.
A point closure along a Quiet Lane in Tameside. Two wooden planters restrict the road width to stop motor vehicles from passing them. The planters have ROAD CLOSED signs on them. Two adjacent signposts have the 'no motor vehicles' sign (aka the flying motorbike) and ROAD CLOSED underneath.

Out of all the roads, one might hazard guess where you'd find mass flytipping? I would have never expected to find it on Crime Lane.

I admire people's lock setups when i see them. This is the £250 Hiploc D1000, the anti angle grinder lock. It's a totally appropriate lock for a long tail cargo bike. I worry when I see inappropriate locks for e-bikes etc

Cycle priority streets are great. Would work really well on somewhere like Burton Road in West Didsbury even Withington if the road isn't really wide enough for protected cycle lanes.

This is Great Ancoats Street and Chorlton Street on Saturday night. There was slow moving, stationary traffic all over the city centre. Even with two lanes, Deansgate would have been 'gridlock'.

Craziest housing stat of the week: The state spends MORE today on housing than it did in 1976. The key difference: we used to build council houses, now we spend it on subsidising private landlords. Our housing system is completely broken.
