Nothing? I get the sense you don’t care that much about Palestine when it can’t be used as ammunition in your domestic political team fight.

Night. The House of Chimes - a tower which you might immediately think of as Big Ben - is adrift in the River Thames. It still seems to be keeping time. In the background, a large, alien building looms over the city of London.

So what do you think the next Democratic president should do about Israel if, by the time they take power, every single human being born in Gaza or the West Bank has been killed? Should there *then* be an arms embargo on Israel?

A problem I have is that a portion of people who defend Biden's policy vis a vis Israel-Palestine insist that they're not pro Israel but then go radio silent when asked what they think, if anything, the next Dem president should do differently. Sorry but I think there's an obvious conclusion here?

Very good and significant news in the display and international justice world. The #ICC Assembly of States Parties will not be held at the UN in New York, but in The Hague. There’s no way America was going to be rewarded for its behavior and no way participants could be safe.

I just screen recorded a tour through Google satellite imagery of Gaza, some of which was just updated with 2026 images. This is just over 10 minutes long and goes basically north to south through Gaza. It only captures a very small fraction of the destruction. youtu.be/mpTgjAhJ78U?...

No, just kidding, even if Americans took home-grown fascism seriously they STILL wouldn't be in a position to tell Gazans "ignore the people using our bombs to murder you, the real baddies are *your own guys*" Absolute fuck off. if you care about fascism do something about Trump.

You know, when Americans are willing to stop their own fascist from serving out his term, maybe they can tell Palestinians that they should ignore the genocide imposed on them and instead attack the people who ran their hospitals (at least until Israel bombed them)

This happened. Every institution in the country, media, college, movies, music, democrats, republicans, law, sports, all conspired to make it illegal, de facto or literally, to not only try to stop, but even vocally oppose Israel massacring every Palestinian man, woman, child and infant.

I think some of these images are not completely new but that does not make them any less horrifying. A lot of people made this happen and while it’s not the *most* evil thing about this my stomach still churns at the replies trying to pin this 100% on Trump and Netanyahu and *no one else*.

Most of this destruction happened under Biden. Don’t try to turn it into a partisan issue. Palestinians deserve better than to be used as some trite “this is why the guy I already hated is bad”. There is a lot of blame to go around and for once Trump is not the primary culprit. He got there too late

Great breakdown of all the v v wild statements in this interview
In the interview, Huang also (unfairly) attributes record renewable energy purchases to AI. He blames climate action for stalling the construction of energy infrastructure, presumably for fossil fuels.
I think we just have to acknowledge that we got ourselves really gummed up in climate change and sustainable energy, and as a result, we just didn’t plan enough energy production.
Then he proclaims that AI is “the best opportunity we have” to “turn a corner on climate change, if you want a future that’s sustainable.” He sees AI accelerating demand for clean energy in the long term. But AI already needs a lot of energy now, and fossil fuels are what we’ve got.
“A more polluting AI buildout is not inevitable.”
But renewables were already the fastest-growing sources of new electricity generation before the recent generative AI boom. It’s generally cheaper to generate power from a wind or solar farm than a new gas or coal plant. But Trump, who lined his campaign coffers with money from the fossil fuel industry, is incentivizing the development of gas and coal plants to power data centers.
And now, data centers are in turn spurring the development of far more fossil fuel infrastructure. Air pollution associated with AI could lead to up to 1,300 premature deaths and more than $20 billion in public health costs by 2028, according to a study from UC Riverside, Caltech, and the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?” Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...
So the message of this research out of China, where you were seeing a lot of kids using A.I. to help them, was that when they were using the A.I., they were getting things done faster. But it turned out that the skills they were learning were not holding, that their actual personal performance, at least in the way we traditionally measure it, was degrading.

What do you think when you hear that?

The last part — I completely agree. Try to get a kid to do long division right now. The multiplication table is starting to be forgotten. Doing square roots, my goodness. Basic math is being forgotten. Does it matter?

That’s my question for you.

Yeah. I don’t think it does. I don’t think it does.

But there must be some set of skills that matter.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But maybe not those. We’re going to discover new ones. Just maybe not those.

There are a lot of skills that don’t matter. My first confession, I actually don’t know my address. And I ——

I don’t really believe that to be true.

It’s completely true. Janine will tell you and Lori will tell you.

One day I had to pump gas — it was a few years ago. They needed my ZIP code, and I panicked. I didn’t know my ZIP code. I don’t know my telephone number. I forget these things. I can live with it.

But let me take the other side because I don’t want to fall into a thing where, because some skills can be safely offloaded ——

Yeah.

I also can’t get anywhere without a mapping system now. Never could, frankly. But I’m a big reader. And one of the skills I really value, one of the capacities I have that I really value is an attention span formed on physical books.

You’re a big reader. I’ve read about the kind of reading you do. And there is, prior to A.I., a lot of concern and noticing among college professors and others that the way people use the internet has probably shortened attention spans.
Some skills can be safely given away. Others are valuable. They are capacities that are needed for that flexibility, for that creative thinking, for that focus. It can’t be the case that everything can be traded off. Some skills can be safely given away. Others are valuable. They are capacities that are needed for that flexibility, for that creative thinking, for that focus. It can’t be the case that everything can be traded off.

Yeah. Well, I think that we’re going to lose some finer intellectual dexterity, but we’re going to be better systems thinkers.

Today’s engineers are far better systems thinkers than I was when I graduated from school. But I was a much better transistor thinker.

What do you mean by systems thinker?

They think of large systems. Today’s computers have trillions, hundreds of trillions of transistors in them. When I first graduated from school, the first chip I worked on had 200 transistors. I knew every one of them by name. No engineer does that today. Most engineers now work well above the transistor, well above the functionality, and they’re cobbling things together to do things.

So you need to think much more about systems and interactions of systems. So some of the lower-level knowledge is gone.
