Does anyone have any advice for a solodev looking to port a game to Nintendo Switch? The game has done well on Steam for its genre (puzzle) on Steam, having won some awards and having over 200 reviews at 99% positive. It also has a bright, cartoony artstyle that is common on the platform.

Sometimes game design is just dumb luck. I have two objects: A can move and B cannot. It was very natural for B to be static, so this wasn't really a decision. For code abstraction, I made it so B could move. So now B moves and the in-game consequences are amazing! #puzzlegame #indiegamedev

So the 2nd nickel of "puzzle games I playtested that are releasing today" is "Would You Love Me If I Was a Snake?". It's a very good snakeoban that felt like a more approachable NuWorm. It has some really cool bonus levels that expand the scope. Check it out!

Check out Hazard Pay! It's a short and sweet sokoban with some interesting mechanics themed around disposing evidence and bodies. I playtested it and also ended up doing (some small) puzzle design consulting work on it.

Last week at work I reviewed a resume that was very clearly AI generated (or at least tailored) that we rejected the candidate on that basis alone. The egregious part was that they listed experience in a technology during a job that took place before said technology existed.

Are puzzle games created or discovered? Clearly a ton of creativity is involved, especially in the presentation. But I'd argue that the real meat of a puzzle game boils down to a series of heavily curated discoveries.

I've been playing around with Raylib to prototype some game ideas (one puzzle and one non-puzzle). It's really nice compared to Unreal Engine, where now I can just write code. I'll probably look into SDL as well. I'm not yet sure whether I'll go with one of these or Godot for my next game.

Why 21%? The major patch last month included a super endgame challenge puzzle that is unlike the rest of the game. It connects each of the game's 21 worlds.

Gentoo Rescue hint menu, with hints 1 and 3 revealed. They read:

I went bowling again to chase my first 200. I almost had my first clean game ever while missing the pocket almost every frame, so I was proud of my spares. Later I was hitting the pocket consistently, but missed 3 easy spares. Any of which would have given 200. Bowling is hard!

I beat this score multiple times tonight, but this game I was especially good with spares.

I just set up a bot in the discord server that will share a screenshot of the level when prompted. For a game with 300+ levels, this is very nice! For example, typing "!show Hook" in chat will have the bot reply with this image of Accumulation.Herrings.Hook:

The Gentoo Rescue community is trying to rate all 300+ puzzles on a 0-5 difficulty scale where 0 (trivial) and 5 (hardest puzzles in the game). I kind of wanted to do something like this to show players expected difficulty, which would make players more willing to move on from hard puzzles.
