One thing about puzzle design is that you have to maintain a consistent style and quality in order to build players' trust. That trust is important, because it affects how they view the entire game. So this gets a lot of your attention. But then sometimes you intentionally break it just for fun

Overall I do think the game could benefit from more exposure, since I still believe there is a lot of unrealized potential. But at the same time, I would also like to spend my time on other things if I can't guarantee a certain amount of success on the Switch.

At this point, I'm not sure if Nintendo would even approve me, or if the game would sell enough on Switch to be worth my time creating the port. I suppose that working with a publisher is also an option.

Does anyone have any advice for a solodev looking to port a game to Nintendo Switch? The game has done well on Steam for its genre (puzzle) on Steam, having won some awards and having over 200 reviews at 99% positive. It also has a bright, cartoony artstyle that is common on the platform.

Sometimes game design is just dumb luck. I have two objects: A can move and B cannot. It was very natural for B to be static, so this wasn't really a decision. For code abstraction, I made it so B could move. So now B moves and the in-game consequences are amazing! #puzzlegame #indiegamedev

I still need to do another pass to make sure it's consistent throughout the game. Difficulty 0 is much higher than I expected, so I'll need to review those especially. But the overall shape seems reasonable!

The histogram of Gentoo Rescue puzzle difficulties based on my ratings over the last few streams: Difficulty 0: 66 levels Difficulty 1: 108 Difficulty 2: 79 Difficulty 3: 45 Difficulty 4: 16 Difficulty 5: 7 This doesn't count some things needed for 100% or the two special Steam achievements.

Check out Hazard Pay! It's a short and sweet sokoban with some interesting mechanics themed around disposing evidence and bodies. I playtested it and also ended up doing (some small) puzzle design consulting work on it.

Last week at work I reviewed a resume that was very clearly AI generated (or at least tailored) that we rejected the candidate on that basis alone. The egregious part was that they listed experience in a technology during a job that took place before said technology existed.
