This is basically what seeing a performing artist is - yeah a robot can or soon will be able to do it better, but we still like to hear somebody scratch away at Vivaldi or whatever, in person. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/o...
It’s the same thing as if your child draws you a crayon picture for your birthday, and even if a robot might do something nicer or it might be that you could download a nicer picture from the internet in some objective sense, it still means a lot more to you precisely because the child chose to do it and put effort into it. So that gives the child a reason to put this effort into it. Beyond that, all kinds of spiritual pursuits and a relationship to values.

Just a couple days ago libertarians were berating Nikole Hannah-Jones for not sending her kid to private school.

Shirley Chisholm Rec Center JUST opened in February and already pool hours are cut back because of staffing. The pool is closed until 11am every weekday. www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/r...
Membership Extensions

During the summer, we had to temporarily reduce operating hours at several of our indoor pools. We understand the impact this has had on our members, and we want to ensure that our members have as much pool time and access as possible.

That said, we are offering qualifying individuals the opportunity to extend their membership by three months for free. Please visit this webpage to learn more and submit a membership extension request. The deadline to opt-in for the extension is October 8, 2026.

The indoor pool at Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center will operate at reduced hours for the duration of the summer while our lifeguards are staffing outdoor pools. Beginning Sunday, June 28, 2026, pool operating hours will be Monday - Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The pool is closed on Saturdays. Members who have been affected will have the opportunity to request a membership extension. Information on how to request a membership extension and qualification criteria will be posted at the Center and on the website in the coming weeks.

Grimace in sunglasses looking cool as the other side of the pillow is poised at the open door of what looks like a corvette-like kit car. Xe(Grimace is non binary) has a full purple shake that rests on the roof of the sports car. There is a purple gel over the image. A low mist clings to the ground. Is this a dream? Or has this mythical badass been conjured? The song “I need a hero” is most likely blazing on xir am/fm radio.
