Just can't put Maryland or West Virginia in the south at all. In WV, they literatally seperated themselves from the confederacy. Oklahoma and Texas are plains to me and not really the south either.

Also worth remembering how narrowly Beshear won over an exceptionally unpopular and demonstrably horrible incumbent in getting a first term. Adkins' role in eastern Kentucky during that election and the one 4 years after is hard to overestimate

Pretty solid if you are forced to draw it by state boundaries. West Virginia is a little difficult to see as southern simply because of the way it was formed but culturally yeah, has some overlap. Maryland is a stretch

This is 100% true. Most are not connected to the lights at all and are only there to keep you from taking dangerous chances by jaywalking. When people feel like they have some manner of control, they're more likely to wait for the appropriate light sequence to cross
