This is literally the Ugly Laws rhetoric

Obviously the metaphor isn't perfect, but the way we are treated as delusional for simply maintaining that we really do exist, while at the same times the boundary of what is 'real' changes from a matter of observed reality to a matter of law and jurisprudence, is a peculiarly horrific thing.

Rather than being 'beyond comprehension,' we disrupt the framework through which reality is comprehended. The normal human world runs into its limits and passes through them, revealing that what was thought to be a limit was never real, forcing confrontation with a reality stranger than expected.

Been reading some stuff on horror and philosophy and one thing that struck me is that the frameworks explored there actually present more or less direct parallels to the trans experience; the material existence of trans people is treated in the same way as the existence of demons, vampires, etc.

this is btw really common in all kinds of settings, conservatives love co-opting progressive language, and the reason it works is that liberals use the language without understanding the underlying power analysis

4chan is for reactionary right-wingers and tumblr is for reactionary liberals who think they are left wing. Both ecosystems are closed and thrive off of authority, rather than seeking to challenge and grow knowledge.

it's very interesting to me how trans women are always told to shut up if we have a critique of any art that portrays us and that there must be something morally wrong with us for thinking we have the right to critique art in the first place

I really wish people online would be more careful about "This one bad thing is actually just a special case of this other bad thing"-type rhetoric, because if you don't step back and think critically for a bit, you'll be saying stuff like "homophobia is just imperialism against the middle class"

I thought that was like, one of the most basic and known thing about marginalisation, that caricatures of them are harmful, that they are propaganda and can have signifiant psychological effects on minorities. But apparently that’s not the case

There is always the thing under all these dismissals, that we *can’t* say it is problematic, regardless of if it is or not. That does not count. We are actively and often aggressively denied any authority at all. I have never seen it but I‘m tired of seeing people dismissing the harm of caricature.

MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF BEING A FEMINIST: - You have to actually like women. You have to care about women's plight. You have to have empathy for women. Dare I say, you have to care about women more than you care about those who exploit them.

- You have to actually center the people the movement is about. You know, the ones impacted the most by misogyny and male-supremacy. - You have to not act like the existence of conservative women is a revelation to feminists or invalidates all of feminism. Corollary of the first point, really.

In 2026, we are gatekeeping feminism. If you call yourself a feminist: - You have to actually be familiar with feminist literature. You can't go "Why don't feminists talk about this?" about things feminists talk about all the time. - You have to consider more than your own experiences.

Feminism’s greatest internal war is over sexual violence: between those feminists who insist (as I do) that rape is at the root of women’s oppression, and those whose loyalty to sex, or strategic assessments, make them feel that such a claim is inherently dangerous. For decades, the later camp won.

The specter of the reactionary white woman was invoked to say that feminist organization was inherently, inevitably conservative, even as the threats to abortion, no-fault divorce, and women's equality and dignity itself ignored and downplayed. So now here we fucking are, bozos.

Trans people were abandoned. Trans women were turned into a fetishistic symbol to motivate fascist hatred and buy-in. Women of color were abandoned too, with the pervasive narrative of feminism being "unable to account for race" repeated with no substantiation to solidify that abandonment.

Instead of building an inclusive feminism focused on the margins, a lot of "critique" effectively became anti-solidarity projects with institutional backing, misappropriating ideas like 'intersectionality' and 'coloniality' to argue that actually, we can't all work together. Also, transmisogyny.

Feminism became not just associated with, but the truest fact of, every single malignant historical force—capitalism, neoliberalism, imperialism, now fascism; feminism is blamed for all of them. Which conveniently absolves the speaker of having to oppose anything *except* feminism. 🤪

Honestly the amount of work that went into creating this beast can't be understated. Crenshaw writing about all her students turning up to her class thinking intersectionality isn't compatible with feminism--that doesn't just *happen*. People worked hard to build that consensus.

Need some critical reflection on the feminism of the 2010s—how it became so timid and cowardly about defending gender equality on principle that it devolved into a kind of circular firing squad in which the only acceptable “feminist” position was a critique of feminism itself.

to be honest there is a lot of loneliness to being a trans guy but i'll be forthright about the fact that a lot of the loneliness is having difficulty co-existing with trans guys who create grievances with women and blame women for the oppression and erasure we face

I remain genuinely shocked that the American public saw what USA Gymnastics did for over a decade and then let a bunch of people persuade them that all school level sports k-12 should be under the same rules as the U.S. Olympic ecosystem because trans people asked to play on teams where they’d fit.

the future of any trans politics needs to actually put changing your presentation on a continuum with changing sex itself, and focus on deconstructing sexing the body (renaming, reinterpretation, HRT, surgery, etc) i.e. "all trans/nb ppl engage in degrees of transsexuality"

The thing is they are not always above 18, and they sure are interested in them looking like they are not. It’s mostly about the fetishisation of transfeminine youthness, and they don’t have to be targeting minors for it to have its roots there

Oh I thought you meant AoSAB as an acronym, I was interested to see an early use by intersex people as I have only seen an early use by trans people thus far (I haven’t been searching for long though so it doesn’t necessarily mean much). It’s still interesting though, thank you!

I think this has a lot to do with third-sexing, they fetishise transmisogyny then act like it most subversive and aspirational, and hate us when we consider feminity and/or womanhood as actually having worth. It is very deeply (trans)misogynistic

I think it is often what happens when a man say he will fight some other man, to place himself as more rightful compared to the other one, to make a hierarchy between them. And these movie like this a lot

Ivy @ivyleaf3.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
I guess it’s about the "wrong/incorrectly" men and the "right" men, as the "bad man" is often marginalised in comparison to the other man, and the "good men" often have to be misogynist or masculine enough, for example through entitlement, even if the movie (or real people) argue it is not the case

Ivy @ivyleaf3.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
The way "bad men" are used in contrast with the "good men" even though it’s generally both who are engaging in misogynistic entitlement and harassment (to reference this trope) seem to come pretty often in the construction and reinforcement of manhood and masculinity, individually and more generally

Do you say this specifically about hate or do you also say this about discrimination more broadly? If I’m not mistaken, trans women and transfems experience worse discriminations, for example like crime, access to shelters, lower pay, legislation, and
