"Kuroo!" Koutarou hails him. "Hey, man!"

"Hello?" Kuroo looks around them.“Why are you here?”

"I'm bringing in some stuff for Tsukki. What are you up to?"

"Just—working, ah, and working out." He has this nerdy aura about him, hiking the strap of his bag higher on his shoulder. All he's missing are the glasses Kei keeps moaning about. "Heading to the gym right now, actually, so if you'll—"

Nuh-uh, not so fast. Koutarou cuts him off before he can squirrel away. "Hell yeah, dude, where do you go?"

Kuroo tries to dodge him. He blinks too fast then not enough. "I'm in between gyms right now."

"Come to mine! Sawamura's isn't corporate so its not soulless. I'll show you around, is tomorrow good?"

"Tomorrow? I don't—"

"That's cool, Thursday?"

"That's yeah, sure, yeah." Kuroo seems to deflate. "Sure. I’ll text you?" He holds his phone up.

Koutarou shakes his head. It'll be fine, he'll see. They can be both friends and lovers to the same man. Koutarou pats his pockets for his phone and thrusts it towards Kuroo after he’s unlocked it. "Put your number in, we'll hash out deets." He almost laughs at how miserable Kuroo looks, almost.

Kuroo returns his phone with a defeated, faraway look.

Man, he is handsome. No wonder Kei doesn’t manage to focus much. Koutarou wants to grab his shoulders and shake him a little, he’s so excited. He sends the new contact about a million smiley faces, grinning when he sees Kuroo’s screen light up.

Kuroo looks to his screen and the message—finally!—cracks a small smile.

Koutarou moves in for a half-hug and a pat on the back as goodbye. "I'm so pumped. See you Thursday!”

He speeds away before Kuroo can change his mind or make-up a better excuse to not see him. Hears a faint what just happened as he hauls Kei’s tote of books back outside.

👓 bokuto wipwed before bed

The best part is that he drives Kei crazy, fully off-the-wall, hands shaking towards the sun, out of his mind, crazy. They're like—perfect together. It makes Koutarou's usually steady hands falter. He’s not one to give in to the swoop of fear low in his belly. He’s got this! He’s gotta lift them up, not drag them down. He tries to keep the doubts out of mind, but he can’t keep them out of sight. Not when Kei worries his lip about them meeting. When he can feel how much Kuroo is missing in-between them.

He’s never doubted this. Three people to a bed is nothing, three people to a life has fit him just fine. He wonders if he can carry it. If Kei doesn’t look at their distribution and thinks pairs make more sense than this lopsided crush they both have. If he wonders what it would be like to tell his brother about a boyfriend instead of having to hide this part of his life, worried that it’s too out there and he won’t be understood. If sitting two and two at a booth might make him relax a little when Bokuto grabs his hand over the table. If he’d be able to finally settle. Maybe it would be better for him. For all of them.

glasses krtsk wip wednesday

Kei finds himself traversing a dual path, himself and Kuroo, themselves days ago, shoulder to shoulder, when Kei stealthily planned how to end-up hand in hand. Now Kuroo offers it freely, grips it tightly with slightly sweaty palms. The trip stays the same, pavement and lonesome inner streets, the hanging branches of shade-giving trees swaying with the hot breeze in mirror arcs, waving at them as they walk past. Kei sees his own phantom self trailing behind them, hopeful. Dare to hope, he thinks. It's new, barely hatched, but it is, and the jealousy he feels for a stranger today is a murmuring echo of the one his past looks at him with. They are here now. He is here now, and Kuroo walks beside him with limber steps, leading him by the hand, knowing the way home.

Kuroo eats shit trying to get to the bed. He slips on his pants, smacks his arm into the nightstand and falls into the mattress face-first. Recovers with a hissed cursed and rights himself as he sets a knee on the bed to sit in between Kei's legs.

He reaches for Kuroo's waistband to pull it down. As Kei laughs, he thinks, my win this time.
