Wilson is panning a $250 million Hollywood movie; she’s not grading an undergrad’s term paper. Slash it to bits if you think it’s garbage. That’s what movie reviews are SUPPOSED to be.

📣 Our new report finds that the Trump admin’s energy + AI “dominance” policies + hostility to renewables will make it even harder for working families to afford their energy bills. Thanks to Trump, the wholesale price of fossil gas could DOUBLE over the next decade, outpacing inflation every year.
Line graph comparing projected nominal average Henry Hub natural gas prices from EIA and Rystad Energy against a 2% inflation baseline from 2025 to 2040.

The only - ONLY - thing Republicans care about is cutting taxes for the rich. And they’ve been extraordinarily successful at it over the Bush2 and Trump presidencies, accounting for almost all of current debt. All done with a 51 vote threshold.

The REALLY huge benefit for sodium ion batteries is they’re less sensitive to temperature. They‘re unlikely to overheat and explode, if they do rupture, they don’t become a fire, and they don’t slow down much in the cold. Plus, the material is incredibly abundant and can be sourced from seawater.

The problem is that it is a winning strategy - a hallmark of fascist leaders and we are living in a time when fascism appeals to a majority of voters. We can point to his low polling now but the reality is if Trump were eligible to run for a 3rd term he’d be odds on favorite right now.

We could fix climate change in the most expensive possible ways, including stuff like carbon capture, for a modest fraction of global GDP share spent on WW2. Well over half of all production worldwide was spent on waging that wars. It's mind-boggling

The thing that’s extra infuriating about this is that the Smithsonians, as a whole, are nothing if not a celebration of America. It’s a bit of a warts-and-all celebration, but anyone who’s actually spent any time at all there would know they are almost relentlessly patriotic and celebratory.

You guys aren't going to believe this, but ... it turns out the oil & gas industry knew that they were poisoning people (in this case, with methane) for years, and they hid it & did nothing to mitigate the harm. No, really, it's true! Incredible investigative work here from @rebleber.bsky.social:

The companies knew they were releasing more of the greenhouse gas than they publicly reported, according to industry files cited by the Center for Climate Integrity, an activist organization.

Electric bills are way too high — particularly PG&E — and plug-in solar is a great way to lower those bills. I’m authoring legislation to allow Californians to easily use these devices; it’s currently quite hard, if not impossible, for people to do so.

In his 2004 book, The Anatomy of Fascism, historian Robert Paxton identified the passions that had animated fascistic political cultures over the previous 80 years. These may sound familiar.
eelings t
hem "mobilizing passions":
• a sense of overwhelming crisis beyond the reach of any traditional solutions;
• the primacy of the group, toward which one has duties superior to every right, whether individual or universal, and the subordination of the individual to it;
• the belief that one's group is a victim, a sentiment that justifies any action, without legal or moral limits, against its enemies, both internal and external;
• dread of the group's decline under the corrosive effects of individualistic liberalism, class conflict, and alien influences;
• the need for closer integration of a purer community, by consent if possible, or by exclusionary violence if necessary;
• the need for authority by natural chiefs (always male), culminating in a national chieftain who alone is capable of incarnating the group's historical destiny;
• the superiority of the leader's instincts over abstract and universal
reason;
• the beauty of violence and the efficacy of will, when they are devoted to the group's success;

If you grew up in the US in the 70s and 80s, it’s easy to understand the distinction between Zionism and Judaism, and how Jewishness is a complex mix of religion, culture and ethnic background. Its the water we swim in. But most of the world didn’t grow up with that background and doesn’t care.

There is a small but vocal anti-capitalist segment of the Left, but I don’t see it having any impact on policy. The IRA, Democrats’ signature climate legislation, containing zero slow-growth policy. Republicans, by contrasts, are spending billions to buy up existing wind leases and promote coal.

Democrats have stopped talking about climate. Strategists say that's smart—but they're wrong. Making climate a top priority wins votes, and barely 1 in 10 voters will vote against climate action. Read all about it in my newsletter, "Notes from the Electric Era." electricnotes.news/p/yes-democr...
