Forget grandiose talk of curing cancer - this is what AI is actually doing to healthcare. In the words of one cardiologist: “it’s bots fighting bots, agents fighting agents, a horrible dystopic future nobody wants to live in.”

Thank you for your work it’s important and meaningful. I bet the biggest sin of those two books, the most dangerous thing for them is that they both offer hope and a way out of cults, censorship and authoritarianism.

It’s not just Starlink. Australia is totally dependent on US big tech, so all our data could be accessed by the US as seen in Europe. What about Palantir and Microsoft in government departments? What about Google in schools? The US government can ask for all that data or cut off access any time

The French sports paper @lequipe-actu.bsky.social nails it. Translation in alt text.

An image from the front page of the French sports paper L'Equipe, showing Donald Trump wearing a puppet of the head of FIFA on his right hand and holding the "FIFA Peace Prize" in his left. He is flanked by images of Omar Artan, the Somalian referee turned away by the U.S. government, and a masked police officer, presumably ICE. The caption reads "Just hours before kick-off, US immigration policy has caught up with the World Cup, undermining FIFA's promise of universality. A prime example is the ban on Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan entering the country."

We broke significant national news this week and not a single mainstream media outlet wanted to cover it or follow up. It isn't surprising, but it is illustrative. Put simply, they're all owned and operated by Zionist billionaires. This is why indie media needs to exist.

With everyone, I am grieving the loss of Marjane Satrapi today. The world is not kind to artists nor are we always kind to ourselves. This makes being kind to each other even more important. Love your friends and family and make your beautiful books. These actions become more meaningful together.

Holding open a page of Marjane Satrapi's book, "Chicken with Plums".

A cartoon of a girl in hijab with a jacket reading 'punk is not ded' is accosted by school officials. A famous still from Marjane Satrapi's film "Persepolis" based on her graphic memoir of the same name about growing up in Iran during the Iranian Revolution.

This one hurts. I've really enjoyed Tim's work in the past But let's just be totally bloody clear here: every single person using a text fabrication engine to replace their work, research and writing skills: THIS MOMENT IS COMING FOR YOU TOO It is truly just a matter of time. It's inevitable ⏱️

I recently wrote a piece critical of Matt Chun's essay about the shootings at Bondi
Beach. In it, I attributed a quote to him that were not his words. This was an egregious
mistake and I apologise unreservedly. At his request, I have removed the piece, but I
wanted to make sure everyone here was aware of the error.
I really have no excuse other than my own carelessness and a degree of hubris. I used
AI to search for other examples Of how people had responded to Chun's piece, asking
for links and key quotes. It brought up mainly mainstream pieces from Australia but
some Reddit links, and links from overseas sources. I also asked it to summarise the
piece, not in lieu of reading it but in addition. (I had first read it after reading Guy
Rundle's comments about it.) I clicked through on some of the links. I noted down the
quote, wrote a drop in paragraph using it, and added it to the draft at some point. That
I didn't double-check it or recognise it as not part of the original essay is entirely on
me.
So, yes, this is a case Of AI generating a false quote, but the issue is that I should've
been far more careful in checking it and I am deeply sorry, and embarrassed, that I
didn't do it to the extent necessary. Obviously, we are all aware of this issue of false

So, yes, this is a case of AI generating a false quote, but the issue is that I should've
been far more careful in checking it and I am deeply sorry, and embarrassed, that I
didn't do it to the extent necessary. Obviously, we are all aware of this issue of false
quotes and attributions with AI, but I had enough hubris to think such a thing would
never get past me. It did.
When Matt Chun first contacted me, I initially responded by saying "It came from a
email discussion with people I know and generally trust and I should've been much
more careful." I was pretty sure I knew what the issue was, but this was a fob to give
me time to think about it. Obviously, I should've just said, let me look into it, but I
actually thought that sounded worse, more like a fob than the false reason I gave.
That's not an excuse, just the thought process in the moment. I also apologise for this.
I will leave further discussion of the the problems with using AI in this way for later.
For now, I really want to make clear the error and to apologise publicly to Matt Chun
for the false quote and the initially misleading response. As I say, I have no excuse
beyond my own carelessness and hubris.

@reimenayee.com @scottmccloud.bsky.social @nsousanis.bsky.social and @neilcohn.bsky.social had some great thoughts (and resources!) on making and teaching comics. (My notes are paraphrased - I tried to do my best!)

Pencil drawings of the cartoonists from the webinar: Reimena Yee, a person with glasses and long dark hair, wearing a white shirt, is on the top left, asking "How has picking apart the form of comics improved your practice of making comics?" Below, on the right is Scott McCloud, a person with glasses and short grey hair, wearing a black t-shirt with a plaid flannel over it, saying "With comics, I don’t think we’re dumbing down complex topics; I think we’re broadening their accessibility."

Pencil drawings of cartoonists from the webinar: Nick Sousanis, with glasses and very short dark hair, wearing a t-shirt that says "protect trans kids" is on the top left, saying "How you think is more important than how you draw." Neil Cohn, who has a beard and is bald, wearing a plaid button-up shirt, is saying "The images in comics are not additive; they are essential."

A pencil drawing of me and my partner watching the webinar on a laptop. On the laptop screen, Nick Sousanis is saying about comics "You’re making thousands of decisions…all in a matter of minutes." In response to that, I’m saying "Ooooh that’s why I’m so tired."

A pencil drawing of Scott McCloud in the middle of the page, saying "I mean, you have to be a generalist to be a cartoonist. There are so many skills you need to make comics!" At the bottom left is me, nodding so aggressively that my head falls off and rolls across the page.

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.
