I am back from the Siglufjörður Comics Festival and starting to chew through the mountain of work that piled up while I was off haring over the mountains. Worth it.

Both a hoot and a thinker, this was worth seeing on the big screen. Glad we had the opportunity. Lana Condor as Eager Young s̶p̶a̶c̶e̶ Legal Cadet was brilliant and the animation was a treat throughout.

All's (state) faire in love and late Minnesota summer. The kid took 1st in sculpture and 3rd in sewn objects for their age range! My knitted beet poet got 2nd and cherry tomatoes remain my own personal Everest. "Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?"R.Browning
Four pictures combined into one: a blue Wings of Fire paper mache' dragon with blue 1st prize ribbon, a knitted beet poet toy with red 2nd prize ribbon, a patchwork pillow, with white 3rd prize ribbon, and a pot of cherry tomatoes being cooked because they didn't win any prizes. Still tasty, though.

With everyone, I am grieving the loss of Marjane Satrapi today. The world is not kind to artists nor are we always kind to ourselves. This makes being kind to each other even more important. Love your friends and family and make your beautiful books. These actions become more meaningful together.
Holding open a page of Marjane Satrapi's book, "Chicken with Plums".A cartoon of a girl in hijab with a jacket reading 'punk is not ded' is accosted by school officials. A famous still from Marjane Satrapi's film "Persepolis" based on her graphic memoir of the same name about growing up in Iran during the Iranian Revolution.

@bbornmueller.bsky.social and I are back from Tokyo Game Market! It was great fun to see Bryan collect some well earned flowers and take a little walkabout following in the footsteps of giants.
Four photographs composited into one. The top row of two shows Bryan Bornmueller posing in front of a Tokyo Game Market photo wall with a goofy yokai dice character and Ursula Murray Husted gesturing deferentially to a walkway with inset tile of Osamu Tezuka's Astroboy character. The bottom row of two shows both artists at Fushimi Inari, one with hat and one without, contrasting with a photograph of two fox statues at Fushimi Inari, one with hat and one without.

No spoilers, but Pixar's latest film Hoppers was great. The scientists were picture perfect and my mom would have loved every bit of it. Very much worth going to see in the theater.

Missing my friend, the great Diana Green.
A memorial tribute to comic artist Diana Green with four drawings of a tall woman smiling at the camera, sitting behind mini comics, grinning in sunglasses, and playing an electric guitar. Text: Diana Green’s laugh was loud and she took up space. She was a woman who lived in a perpetual state of limerence: people, comics, music, teaching, cartoons, and existence. I tried to say all of this at her funeral, but wasn’t able to get more than a few words out. If she had been there, to make a knee-bucklingly bad pun, I probably would made a better job of it. Diana was big in a way that made me feel less small. Miss you, Di. umh, 2026

Mexican-American farm family in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 1937. Photo made by Russell Lee for the WPA.
A black and white photograph from 1937 by Russell Lee for the WPA. A big joyful Mexican-American family gathers around their kitchen table after working in the sugar beet fields of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They are drinking cups of coffee together. There are four adults and five children. Everyone, minus one little child who looks straight at the camera, is smiling with love at a baby held warmly and securely in a woman's lap.
