To add to all the lovely videos of non-AI processes multicilia beating: ctenophore multiciliated cells! They can reach up to 1mm long, causing a rainbow light refraction effect with the correct light positioning! Taken by myself at MBL in 2019 embryology. Realtime frame-rate!

Within the endoderm, we find evidence that morphogenetic programs are executed tissue-wide while at the same time subsets of this germ layer are acquiring distinct regional identifies. Please have a read and let us know what you think! 3/3

Despite sharing many marker genes and upstream induction signals, the endoderm and the dorsal forerunner cells are quite transcriptionally distinct even at the earliest time point we sampled. 2/3

New preprint alert! Led by @qsb-uc-merced.bsky.social grad student Po-Shu Tu from my and Stefan Materna's labs, we found that the receptor tyrosine kinase Met is required for directional migration of #endoderm cells in #zebrafish. But — plot twist! — Met's canonical ligand HGF is dispensable.
