Christa Pike was convicted of murdering a classmate in 1995. It was not clear what went wrong in the execution or what her current medical condition was.

Christa Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 killing of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. A court stayed her lethal injection that was scheduled for Sept. 30.

Attorneys for Christa Pike said she was being treated at a hospital but her condition is unknown. Journalists who witnessed her attempted execution described snoring, kicking and complaints from Pike about pain.
