The comforting illusion we continue to cling to is that “if only the truth came out, people would care.” The harder truth is that some people have already decided they do not.

The change we seek is within us, how we treat our neighbors, how we reach out to help those in need, and our ability to expand our empathy and compassion beyond what we ever imagined possible. I know we have it in us to rise to this challenge and to create the communities and change we want to see.

Happy Elizabeth Peratrovich Day! Ḵaax̱gal.aat (1911–1958), who was Raven of the Tlingit Lukaax.ádi clan, gave a moving speech that is believed to be a large reason the first civil rights bill for Alaska Natives was passed in 1945. Read more about her here: archives.alaska.gov/education/pe...
Black and white photo of Elizabeth Peratrovich, a woman with flawless skin, elegant earrings, dark hair and eyes. "Asking you to give me equal rights implies that they are yours to give. Instead I must demand that you stop trying to deny me the rights all people deserve." Born in 1911, she was an equal rights advocate for all Alaska Natives and helped pass the first anti-discrimination law in the USElizabeth Peratrovich quote: "I would not have expected that I, who am barely out of 'savagery', would have to remind gentlemen with five thousand years of recorded civilization behind them, of our bill of rights." Cartoon of Tlingit woman draped in a red shawl with a raven on it, her hair in a red bandana, posed with her arm flexed. Alaska scene behind her with a bill dozer, signs including one that says HB77

This is why health insurance execs are running scared now. They've known all along that they're killing people. They didn't realize we knew it, too, and that for at least some of us, it's time for a reckoning.
A screenshot of a social media post by Qasim Rashid, reading:
According to The Lancet, America's for profit exploitative healthcare system causes 68,000 preventable deaths annually.

That means since an assailant killed the UHC CEO, America's health insurance corps have killed ~400 Americans who should be alive today.

That's 1 person every 7.5 minutes - perpetually. It's long past time we abolish exploitative healthcare and make healthcare a human right.

This healthcare ceo is hard to talk about because how much death can you cause indirectly before you’re a murderer who got murdered? How do you convince yourself it doesn’t count if you kill people with policy instead of a gun? What do you have to believe about life and systems and human worthiness?
