This book is SO GOOD. Historical fiction horror--A woman's husband sends her to this remote convent because she suffers from "nerves" and "anxiety" but she quickly discovers some kind of beast is stalking the nuns!

I partnered with Poisoned Pen Press for an exclusive cover reveal of Fairly Bad Ways to Die by @brianmcwriter.bsky.social this is coming to you April 2027 and I cannot wait! A Plague Masked Killer stalking a local Ren Faire? This sounds amazing
FAIRLY BAD WAYS TO DIE a blue cover with medieval artworkFAIRLY BAD WAYS TO DIE a blue cover with medieval artworkFairly Bad Ways to Die follows a merry band of college students whose trip to a Renaissance faire takes a deadly turn when a joust gone horribly wrong unleashes a plague doctor killer determined to turn the fairgrounds into a bloodbath.
FAIRLY BAD WAYS TO DIE is Brian McAuley at his most wickedly fun. Combining razor-sharp social commentary, coming-of-age chaos, gruesome plague doctor kills, and the immersive setting of a Renaissance faire, this is a blood-soaked slasher that brings the carnage, and the comedy, in equal measure. Come for the jousting. Stay for the murder.

HEkE are things that linger about a person once they're gone.
The pitch of their voice, or how they laughed, which could be in between a gasp and a chuckle. How they always needed to have their music on loud each Saturday morning as they deep-cleaned their home. And especially, all the objects that gave them joy and, in many ways, defined their life.
Horror paperbacks were what brought my mother joy and wonder. When we went on vacation, she'd lug a few old horror novels along, not recent ones. No. My mother preferred paperbacks from the 1970s and 1980s, with yellowed pages and garish covers. I remember going with her to the grocery store when I was little, and there they'd be, by the checkout counter, in a black wire rack that I'd spin around too fast, and she'd tell me to slow down. I would gently stop the spinning display, captivated by those creeping faces and monsters. The images on the front were horrifically whimsical, in this sort of surreal and macabre way, with menacing-looking creatures peering out, or a haunted-look-ing house in the background, begging for someone to enter.
When it came time to decide what to do with my mother's things after she died, I did what many people do, I froze. I sat
