Muppets could be absurdly (unintentionally) scary. The Vincent Price episode of the Muppet Show where Miss Piggy turned into a statue would keep me awake if I just _thought_ about it.

I don’t know, maybe the memory of seeing people black bagged off the street is too fresh for me but yes I do think we should be circumspect about the adoption of surveillance technologies

I can easily plan and get ingredients for a meal, can the AI make me not tired at 5pm so I can cook it?

Looking into all that made me realize something AI is _terrrific_ at: presenting you with what has the appearance of a solution to your problem, then when you still have the problem shrugging and saying “skill issue I guess“

I got to read more horrifying computer stuff this morning, but thankfully I am on vacation from my computer job so instead of pacing around and panicking I’m going to read this book about fermenting vegetables.

It’s just a hard road now, win out + get slightly lucky + beat Miami. If there’s not a decent chance of that then we don’t belong in the playoff.

All the things that are far away are subject to spin, the right media diet makes them disappear or turns them into good things. When you swipe your own card at the grocery store no one can spin that.

leftism that clings to the Battle of Blair Mountain (1921) more than the Battle of Minneapolis (2026) is leftism that is more concerned with aesthetics than historical consequences.

And there's an argument to be made there, even though I disagree and think it's terrible. But the Democrats on the stump aren't even making that argument, they're turning the big dial labeled "trans panic" until the crowd cheers!

No that's a case you are making for them. They are just offering unilateral compromises, you are backfilling the reasoning behind it.

I mean it is just literally, obviously true. I guess I just think that it being true is a bigger problem than someone inconveniently saying it. If it's bad for candidates maybe we should examine why we have to create a fantasy world for our candidates to run in?

Rest in peace, Wendell Berry.
The Peace of Wild Things
Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

so, so much of this discourse cycle and many discourse cycles before this boils down to "we need to divide people into good ones and bad ones in a way in which I am still a good one"

it seems like an AI-attitudes phase shift is underway and I think its very interesting in many ways blah blah blah I'll just say this: if you're using it at work you need to take stock of what mechanisms you have put in place to prevent yourself from getting dumber, because if you haven't, you are.
