Congratulations on 200 amazing gems!

Looking for some ideas. Most of Year 10 are out on a trip. I have a lesson with a handful who didn't go from the whole year group. Last lesson Friday.

In #MathsToday we practiced differentiating polynomials before moving on to start looking at determining if a function is increasing, decreasing or stationary at a point.

Or maybe teach a HL topic in the HL only lesson, but get them to practice when SL are practicing something related? E.g. HL do implicit Differentiation whilst SL practice product rule.

Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
Ah, I see. I can see that it would be difficult as the pace for the HL is so much faster and you need to get through the SL content. Could you hold off on stats and probability for IB2 as they don't interact with other topics as much?

Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
Not something I have done. If I had to, I would try to get it scheduled so all students could attend all lessons on their timetable and then you can let the SL students know when they don't need to come.

Decided to make the focus of Year 7 Algebra on manipulation, and leave solving equations until year 8. Picked out 2 or 3 key skills for each year group to focus retrieval starters around.

In #MathsToday we had a productive meeting where we discussed changes for the curriculum next year.

Should work on an iPad, but I don't have one to test it. Let me know if not. I don't remember seeing any official stuff on desmos. I have used it to put bits together for our department.

Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 26/01/2026
I used this successfully today to teach solving a quadratic equation when you have draw a line on a given quadratic graph. Being able to write the equation next to the graph was really helpful.
000
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
I will take a look at how I can change that.

You can either use the blank one to create live in the lesson, or load a saved desmos graph. Not compatible with desmos (now amplify) classroom.

Any desmos file.

Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
I am not going to use it for labels in reality. It is useful to be able to draw on a graph when demonstrating.
110
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
That is the topic I am teaching next week that made me want this! Though I will just type a live equation of a straight line into the desmos directly.
000
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
Whilst I get your point about the labels, and I can do that, a lot of teachers don't know those more advanced features and they do require a bit of learning that some just aren't up for. This is slightly less 'tech advanced' I think. But I get your point for labels, I was more thinking demos.

2. In class I wanted to write a question on the board for students to see with the desmos showing. I know I could use the note section for this, but personal preference. 3. We have TV screens instead of projectors on boards, so I can't write on them. I use graphic tablet to annotate live a lot.
200
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
I had three personal reasons for it. 1. When I record a video using desmos, it is helpful to be able to use my graphics tablet to write at the same time as seeing the desmos activity. Especially when they are embedded without the equations showing.
110
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
Yes. The ink is separate to the desmos graph, so you can change the desmos and ink stays. You can then add more ink.
100
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
Not at the moment. Do you mean a second graph to appear side by side?
100
Dan Rodriguez-Clark @interactive-maths.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
You can either start with blank Desmos file and build it up live, just like you would in Desmos. Or create an interactive Desmos file before the lesson, and then load it using the unique ID generated by Desmos. You can then annotate with the pen tools, or add a textbox.

Mocks coming up? I have a tool that helps get the timings straight when there are multiple exams, and extra time thrown in too. In IB we do 30 minute and 5 minute announcements, not sure about GCSE and A-Level? Can either be on screen or printed like this. tutor.interactive-maths.com/exam-timings
A table with columns for the time, examples, students affected and announcements for running exams. It shows the regular time announcements and 10% and 25% extra time announcements for two exams, and the timings for these announcements.

No, that is a bit crazy. I have it all on the cloud, on my hard drive and an external hard drive, just to be safe!

I have everything on the cloud, but I use a USB for two reasons. 1. It is easier to quickly open files without the need to log in to my Google account. 2. We can print straight from USB
