A One Nation politician complains that it’s a "sad place" when a cafe judges someone based purely on their political beliefs... coming from a party whose entire business model is judging people. #auspol

The problem with this kind of behaviour is that there is a significant proportion of the population who can’t look at this stuff critically (including journalists lol) and you end up with people who have negative vibes about something for no particularly good reason.

Something that can't be unseen is the sheer popularity of racism in Australia— there's a massive slab of the electorate who are so deeply, reflexively AND consciously racist that they're perfectly willing to trash the economy, rule of law, and countless people's lives to see racist policies enacted.

My brief time as a jnr finance reporter on a daily city newspaper right before a major stock market crash taught me so much: the experts don't know what is coming & can't say for sure what's happening now, but wow in terms of past events & trends they really can't agree on what they were or why.

Of course it's more complicated than this. Yes a rate rise means higher mortgage payments etc. But not raising rates means higher inflation and costs on everything

I am not sure this reflects the Aussies so much as our very childish, and very binary, political debate. Time for a serious adult discussion. It might have to occur outside government.

Progressives have really got to stop lecturing the community that “actually you’ve got it really good” - because there’s also also a whole set of inequality metrics that back up the very real pressures people are feeling in their jobs, homes, families, communities.
