Really enjoyed talking robotics and where AI goes next with the BBC AI Decoded team. A wide-ranging discussion from the World Humanoid Robot Games to world models, robot manipulation, uncertainty, data, deployment... and quite a bit in between. And still so much more to say.

Introducing: Mechanistic World Models. Scientific discovery is not just prediction. It requires uncovering the mechanisms behind observations. A capability current ML lacks. With @ansonisl.bsky.social and Bernhard Schölkopf.

Delighted to be back at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition with a team of humans and robots, exploring why getting robots to robustly manipulate the real world remains one of robotics' biggest scientific challenges. If you're in London this week, come and say hello!

Are world models the missing piece for truly dexterous tactile robots? 🤖 Great to join the ARIA (@aria.org.uk) programme meeting on robot dexterity to discuss how predictive models perform in contact-rich settings. #WorldModels #Robotics #ARIA #EmbodiedAI @a2i-oxford.bsky.social
A picture of a presentation slide defining a World Model as "A learnt, action-conditioned predictive model of environmental dynamics that supports planning over future actions." It includes images of the Genie 3, Marble and GAIA3 world models.

A recurring theme in our recent work (e.g. SPARTAN with @ansonisl.bsky.social) is that predictive world models become more interpretable when they help identify which parts of the input stream actually influence behaviour. Let's learn what matters, not just what happens. arxiv.org/pdf/2411.06890

Heading to Edinburgh for the 7th UK Manipulation Workshop. It’s been great to see these meetings grow into a strong UK venue for exchanging ideas across planning, control, and learning in manipulation. Looking forward to conversations there. Come and say hello! www.robot-manipulation.uk

Always look forward to CoRL - for the people, papers & workshops. Sadly have to miss it this year. Delighted that @junjungoal & Alex Mitchell are there representing A2I, and Julius Jankowski is presenting new work from our Amazon team! 🎉 See you next year! #CoRL2025

NVIDIA’s £2bn pledge to UK AI startups is recognition that we don’t just use AI — we invent it, shape it, and apply it. As both Oxford researcher & founder of a successful AI startup, I was proud to be in the room for this announcement. #AI #UKTech #Oxford
