Hurricane #Isaias will likely make landfall this evening along the FL Gulf Coast as a potentially dangerous hurricane. Currently sitting at Category 3 strength (120 mph max. sustained winds), but shear will begin to modestly weaken it soon. That being said, "weaken" should be taken cautiously...

Historic warmth is currently impacting our global oceans. September shattered the previous peak for the warmest average global sea surface temperature on record for the month. And this excessive heat is found across nearly all regions. Data from NOAA ERSSTv6. I finally adjusted the y-axis here. 🌊

2026 as a whole is now on track to end up roughly tied with 2024 as the warmest year on record in ERA5, at 1.6C above preindustrial. And 2027 waiting in the wings to be quite a bit warmer on the back of a record-setting El Nino event.

The universe is 13.8 billion years old, and human civilization has existed for about ten thousand years. We don't know if intelligent life exists elsewhere; it's rare here on Earth. Perhaps humans aren't the only species capable of their own demise, unable to evolve beyond tribalism and primal fear.

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.
