If the crossover isn't a game with story and dialogue what's even the point man Even the mid SRW plots are elevated by getting to see Hyoma Aoi hang out with Heero Yuy

Fortnite would never have budding yuri between Swedish enby fighting girl turned mecha pilot and British-Japanese captain.

Admittedly, the art of a true crossover game with proper character interaction isn't very appealing of work these days for the guys sitting at the top, especially as it seems as easily rewarding to have icons stand next to each other like some trophy gallery or hall of fame of (insert medium here).

130

IndyGotcha ~#CoyoteTrialReviews~ @indygotcha.bsky.social · 6h

Super Robot Wars I've heard is much, MUCH better about this though - but I guess it's less harder to play around due how all the characters occupy the same genre overall, and some recurring series or characters let the writers get even more familiar with them, or have their creators directing them.

010

IndyGotcha ~#CoyoteTrialReviews~ @indygotcha.bsky.social · 6h

Source: Me who played both PxZ & 2, lamenting how characters are often there to enact certain iconic moments or scenes from their games over building friendships, rivalries, etc during these adventures, outside of very few. Some potential character interactions are entirely skimmed over as well.

110

IndyGotcha ~#CoyoteTrialReviews~ @indygotcha.bsky.social · 6h

I think one major reason is much easier paydirt of just having icons together ala "hype culture" that Smash Bros has. Foregoing proper interaction bits also frees the writers from having to know every character's personality from each series - often leading to flanderization with good bit of them

110

IndyGotcha ~#CoyoteTrialReviews~ @indygotcha.bsky.social · 6h

Prolly due being eeasier to get into due how there's no need to know the characters for interactions to land well. Instead people collectively build their own fanons for the characters, primarily in Smash Bros... I mean, which other place do we have Sephiroth taking fondness on Pichu of all things

Games like Project X Zone are awesome because they can just say stuff like "Phoenix Wright got Majima out of jail after Yakuza 4" and we shockingly don't get stuff like that in modern IP crossovers

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is.

Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.

Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.

an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Sorry, I don't know star wars lol

It's still the 25th in Japan, right?! 🎊 Happy Tenchi Day! This year, it's all three of Sasami's friends!

Black and white toned picture of Mirei, Misao and Yugi in their main casual clothes. They are all floating in various poses, with Misao's being more surprised of the bunch. Her own expression is surprise, while the other two are smiling. They are all looking at the camera.

color illustration where sasami and ken are seated against each, as both seem to look at each other/the camera. sasami is holding ryo-oh-ki, who is chewing on one of sasami's beads on her sleeve, while ken is holding pucchiemon who's very happy and very cute with his ribbons. pucchiemon is also holding onto ken while sitting on his lap.

both of them are adults here and are dressed very fancily, although sasami is traditional juraian of a sort and ken's western. sasami has a wide mature smile while ken has a more confident but small smile. sasami's decorations on her kimono ensemble are rose-themed, while ken's decorations appear to be juraian.

I am too tired so you're getting crap alt text. Y'all know the famous 02 eyecatch that starts with Veemon eating chocolate and ends with the kids staring at the viewer? Yeah! It's the same thing except they're all adults and in their epilogue designs.

I'd gone through with a custom design for Miyako because I hate her epilogue look but I didn't want people asking me questions or thinking I'm stupid. Best I did was give you some Beyond references instead. Good night.

Bad alt text because I am tired and look, I wish I didn't have to do alt text all the time because I am tired always but here's an attempt:

Sasami in the foreground, flat colors. In the background surrounding her in a kind of montage layout are the following:

The biggest figure, Tsunami, looking down at her
All four versions of Pretty Sammy: OVA, Tenchi Universe, Magical Project S, and Sasami: Magical Girls Club. Each one of them is posing with their figures the order they go in (so 1, 2, 3 and 4.)

-Teen Sasami in her school uniform from the OVA, with Ai Tenchi's Sasami next to her. Teen Sasami is looking down in interest, Ai Tenchi's is winking.

-The two baby versions of baby Sasami from Universe and OVA. Universe's is looking back at Sasami in the foreground, while OVA's is looking forward.

Sasami in the foreground is done digitally. Everyone else was done traditionally with some color correction and digital clean-up. There's a gradient map over the background that makes this have a more pinkish tint.

Most likely - but I really wanted to see Maya gush over Gemini being a cowgirl samurai with a mech -> Gemini getting her heart positively rocked by having gained a personal fangirl of sorts (THEN later on they'd discover each other communicating with souls of their sisters...) Ahh man I could go on
