6 which I was a little surprised since I'm terminally online. But I thought it was interesting that only 1 I was introduced by the algorithm. The other 5 I learned about from people I follow (like on blue sky) or collabs with other content creators I watch

tile mosaic of two men wearing tradesmen-esque clothes and carrying what look like tool or gym bags. they are holding handsclose up of the clasped handstile mosaic of an older man wearing a yalmulke in a sweater vest carrying a globe and a briefcaseclose up of the globe

Unironically, schools should teach latex or markdown instead of word processing. Also teach remarkjs/revealjs instead of PowerPoint and pandas/csv instead of Excel.

Sometimes my cat Severian really wants attention and wants me to hold him like a baby and pet him until he falls asleep in my arms. Which is so sweet and cute, except..

During tornado season I can never remember the difference between a watch and a warning, so I made up a sort of mnemonic for it. A tornado watch is like, "Watch out! There's a tornado right behind you!"

One of the most clarifying passages I've ever read on what "polarization" actually means in the U.S."
Excerpt from the book How Democracies Die.

"America's democratic norms, then, were born in a context of exclusion. As long as the political community was restricted largely to whites, Democrats and Republicans had much in common. Neither party was likely to view the other as an existential threat. The process of racial inclusion that began after World War II and culminated in the 1964 Civil Rights Act and 1965 Voting Rights Act would, at long last, fully democratization the United States. But it would also polarized it, posing the greatest challenge to established forms of mutual tolerating and forbearance since Reconstruction."

From a ritual I did a few weeks ago. Mostly meditating and reflecting. It was nice
An arrangement of lot candles in a wooden table. There are four white candles and two taller black candles. In the center is a ceramic bowl full of sand. Behind the candles is a thurible burning incense. There are also two unlit red candles in the table.

Luddites were not against technology or progress, they were against the threat of a machine taking your job away being used as a cudgel to suppress workers rights and wages. Does this sound relevant to any current topics?

It’s why the word ‘hallucinations’ in relation to gen AI is misleading. When humans hallucinate, it’s because something’s misfiring in our brains. AI hallucinations are not a mistake. The system is doing exactly what it was intended to do. That’s why they can’t fix it, because it’s not broken. 13/
