I wonder if this is related to people’s desire to reduce their cognitive load in an environment where there is an abundance of info/media, especially when so much info/media is pushed as “need to know/consume.” Couple that with algorithms that teach people to only entertain their interests/desires.

From a teaching perspective, I know I can be friendly with students without being friends. Building a rapport with them is good, and some students prefer a lot of distance while others prefer something akin to a friend, but internalizing and maintaining a professional code of ethics is key.

A ban is good, but I want strong punishments for offending the letter or spirit of this law. Fines are not enough. Expulsion from office, a ban on holding any other public office, and possible imprisonment or parole in addition to paying back anything made while betting with interest.

Apparently there was one specific instance after player intros when they are supposed to shake hands again, but the fact that he didn’t stay on the court to shake hands with any of the SC players and support his own team is further proof he was just mad he lost to Dawn and SC.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!
