I loathe Israel and the genocide that it is committing against the Palestinian people. I don't think we are doing enough to stop them. However, this Green Party vote seems like some puerile 1980s sixth form student union vote. I want the Greens to show that they are a serious party.

Re English ethnicity: There's no ethnicity or DNA marker that maps well onto England. Same true 150 years ago. At high level, our ethnicity blends with other NW Europeans. At next level, it goes sub-national: Geordies are v Scottish; NW, SW and welsh borders different. English is a national culture
Map of identifiable sub-national DNA groupings in the UK. While a large identifiable Central/South England DNA group stands out (that's similar to the Dutch), there are others within England's borders: in the North East, North West, South West and Welsh marches. Are those people 'not ethnically English'?

Horrifying. And this person is presumably still at it.
In a third case, a lesbian asylum seeker from Uganda whose asylum claim was based on fear of imprisonment or death in her home country if her sexual orientation was discovered, was unable to find a legal aid lawyer to represent her.

“I managed to find a private immigration lawyer but I had no money to pay him, so he forced me to have sex with him as a form of payment even though he knew what my asylum case was,” she said. “I felt there was nothing I could do to prevent this.”

It's that day again #alevels
[Title panel]:
A-LEVEL RESULTS COLUMNS DAY

[Scene is a TV news type report about A Level results day]

REPORTER [talking to camera outside a school where students are crowding outside the hall to get in]:

Well, it's that day again

When A-Level students across the country finally get to find out

What Britain's newspaper columnists think about their results.

[show the interior of the school hall, with long tables, but instead of results papers on them, loads of middle-aged newspaper columnists are all laid out]

[Close up on the COLUMNISTS lying on the table, talking up to a gaggle of excited students desperate to find out what they say]

PETER HITCHENS:
I remember when A-Levels meant something

CLARKSON:
I got a C and two U's

[Cut to outside the hall, the REPORTER is talking to a student]

REPORTER:
And did you get the middle-aged opinions you wanted?

STUDENT:
Yes!

I got one ‘There's Too Much Humanities’,
and two Oxford graduates telling me they went to Oxford.

REPORTER [now doing a voiceover, as we see the students in the school hall next to the columnists on tables, and the students are preparing to jump in the air for a photographer]:

And then the annual photo shoot…

One, two, three...

[One of the columnists on the table pipes up with]:

What's The Point Of University in 2026?

[The students all jump for joy]

STUDENTS:
HOORAY!

[ends]

Cruelty is the foundation of those 'policies'. Making us feel threatened is the purpose. We have no physical proof of our status, we are at the mercy of a glitch. We are aliens, and we must be made aware of it. Reform's 'plan' to strip us of our Leave to remain is just a darker shade of grey.

If you are local, there is clean up action taking place. Sign up to WhatsApp groups to get info on clean up plans/approach Write to council/councillors/MP Details below - DM me if WhatsApp link doesn’t work.
ACTION-

An estimated 1.25 billion (25tonnes) plastic pellets (nurdles) spilled in the river Tyne a week ago and are now all over our beaches, river, in our seas. According to experts this is being classed as the biggest plastic pollution disaster in European history.

Two actions to potentially take:

You can join a community WhatsApp group that has been running this past week to help with the nurdle clean up please see this link

https://chat.whatsapp.com/KXTZ6z069si0vNqNOnrc1f

There are individual beach groups set up and there has been an unofficial request for help specifically on Monday and Tuesday. No organisation is leading this as hands are all tied by Environment Agency advice.

Volunteers on the ground and myself strongly believe that @ntcouncilteam have not grasped the emergency level of this catastrophe and the response has been insufficient and late. So whilst volunteers are needed (and you must join the group to know more about this please) we need to put the pressure on the council to absolutely do more.

Money should not be an issue, the environment should.

join a specific beach clean effort through community chat or just head down. Find out more via WhatsApp.

Large mesh bags are effective with shovels or where appropriate still dustpan and brush, techniques developing daily. Leave next to council bins in bin bags.

Write to your MP, Councillor and the Mayor - all three and tell them you want to see a large scale effort going out at the appropriate times based on the tides to collect the nurdles.

We are absolutely not seeing this. People are needed specifically Monday and Tuesday for a large scale clean up and we expect to see the council responding with numbers and the appropriate gear and equipment.Nb- the council tractor is still being used on the beach and this is burying the nurdles deeper causing significantly more harm than good. This must stop.

25 tonnes of nurdles, more than 1 billion nurdles, were spilled into the Tyne last week and are washing up on our beaches, north and south of the Tyne. Likely one of the largest ever plastic pollution events in the UK. There is remarkably little mention of this on here.
Guardian headline from Weds 22nd July reading:

“One billion plastic pellets spilled into River Tyne after two ships collide
Up to 25 tonnes of nurdles, the raw material for plastic manutacturing, have spread further than initially feared”

With an image of a beach covered in nurdles.
