Lavender Hack is such a charming game! Ran it for some visiting friends a few months back as a lark/dare. Wrote about it too. This new print of the core rules is like $20. Go check it out.

This is kind of the whole ball game right here. Unfortunately designers often hide the ball. Or they don't understand their own intentions. (No seriously.) The flip side of this is when players are dead-set on asserting their *own* intentions, system be damned.

Great post! An interesting addendum is that the misunderstanding that "only the mechanised things are real" is equally detrimental to OSR play as to the post-forge games described in the post.

We promised show notes, and now we've added them! Run into an acronym or concept you didn't understand? Check the notes. Holy cow, tossing off several dozen game titles in an episode is exhausting. If there are *still* concepts or acronyms you'd like more info about, hmu and I'll add 'em.

This honest, vulnerable, challenging piece slipped under my radar, and it deserves more attention here. Do we "consume" games, or do we play them? Can we enjoy games without desiring / coveting them? Why are we even doing if we don't dial our KS pledge up to maximum anticipation?

It's probably good, actually for development and maturation of the art form that D&D dominates like 90% of the market, mind share, and gaming media. Pressure turns carbon into diamond and all that.

I love leaving my game table for a few days just how we left it at the end of the session. Just a few! The rest of the house needs this table too. But while it's set up? Feels like a soda bottle shaken and capped. Fizzing. Waiting to pop the second I crack it open again.

House cons are where it's at, folks. Unless you *need* a dealer's room or you're hustling for work. Not to undersell the community building labor. Organizing 20-30+ people, some of whom you may not know, isn't nothing. Magic when you can make it happen tho.
