❤️ When calcium obscures the coronary arteries, can AI help reveal the truth? Heavy coronary calcification remains a major challenge in CCTA interpretation. A commentary explores how deep learning may improve calcified plaque assessment and diagnostic performance. #Cardiology #AI #MedicalImaging
True-positive case of deep learning detection of obstructive coronary stenosis (≥50%). Panels A–C show curved planar reconstruction and transverse CT views of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery with a calcified plaque (arrow) and green cross-section lines drawn at 1-mm intervals; panel D shows the corresponding quantitative coronary angiography confirming >70% luminal stenosis.

🧠 In epilepsy, immobility is not one behavior with one cause. Male WAG/Rij rats showed more passive responses and SWDs under threat. Only females linked passive coping to later safe-context freezing (r=0.83, p<0.005). Neither correlated with SWD number or duration. #EpilepsyResearch
Figure with three panels comparing male and female WAG/Rij rats in an epilepsy model. Panel A shows more passive reactions in males in an unsafe environment. Panel B shows freezing percentages by age in a safe environment. Panel C shows a strong positive correlation between passive reactions and safe-context freezing in females (r=0.83, p=0.00008), but not in males (r=0.19, p=0.63).

🤔 Why do stroke patients with similar infarcts recover differently? 📌 A new FBL review introduces a phase-specific immune-metabolic framework: 1️⃣ Neuroinflammation & BBB status. 2️⃣ The Gut-Brain-Metabolic Axis. 🔗 www.imrpress.com/journal/FBL/31/8/1… #Stroke #Neuroscience
Fig 1: Proposed systems-level framework for multimodal biomarker integration in precision stroke recovery, linking inflammatory/immune markers (CRP, IL-6, TNF-alpha, NLR), metabolic and nutritional markers, the gut-brain-metabolic axis (microbial diversity, SCFAs, TMAO), and neuroplasticity/repair candidates (BDNF, VEGF, GDF-10), with arrows indicating proposed interactions as a hypothesis-generating model.Fig 4: Mechanisms of blood-brain barrier dysfunction after cerebral ischemia, contrasting physiological barrier integrity maintained by claudin-5, occludin, and ZO-1 with ischemia-induced endothelial dysfunction, MMP-9-mediated basement membrane remodeling, paracellular leakage, and a positive-feedback inflammatory loop.Fig 7: Proposed gut-brain-metabolic pathways influencing neuroinflammation and recovery after stroke, showing post-stroke gut dysbiosis and impaired gut barrier allowing microbial metabolites (SCFAs, TMAO) and LPS to modulate microglial homeostasis, astrocyte reactivity, and neuroplasticity.

Infographic titled "Histological Evolution of Acute Myocardial Infarction" showing the cardiac infarction site and four post-infarction time points: 0–12 hours, 12–72 hours, 1–3 weeks, and >1 month. The panels illustrate wavy, stretched cardiomyocytes and beginning necrotic coagulation; neutrophil infiltration and culmination of necrotic coagulation; disintegration of necrotic myocytes with granulation tissue formation; and formation of a fibrous scar with fewer cells and abundant collagenous fibers.

❤️ Where does ventricular tachycardia hide? A myocardial scar is not just damaged tissue. Within the scar, surviving myocardial fibers can create hidden electrical pathways that sustain VT. This thread explores how 3D mapping reveals these arrhythmogenic circuits. #Cardiology #Electrophysiology
Six-panel electrophysiology figure showing VT ablation steps: (A) 3D electroanatomical voltage map of the left ventricle with color-coded scar; (B) 12-lead surface ECG with Pacemap; (C) intracardiac electrograms (MAP, CS, RV catheters) with a diastolic potential marked by a red arrow and a dashed annotation line; (D) 3D voltage map showing a linear ablation lesion (red dots) labeled a–d at the VT exit site; (E) Pacemap after apical linear ablation; (F) exit block confirmed after basal linear ablation.Side-by-side local activation time (LAT) maps showing rotational activation pattern: left, substrate map during RV-paced rhythm (39–214 ms color scale); right, same heart in VT with a 3D rotor and decapolar recording channels at the bottom. Surface ECG leads I–V6 displayed on the right. Two 3D maps comparing propagation patterns: (A) BiV-paced rhythm and (B) RV-paced rhythm. Yellow dotted arrows show rotational/scrolling activation wavefronts and red arrows mark conduction pivots, illustrating how pacing modality alters the apparent reentrant circuit.Three-panel figure: (A) sinus-rhythm voltage map with low-voltage scar region outlined; (B) S1 and S2 pacing maps showing differential conduction into the low-voltage zone; (C) clinical VT 12-lead ECG paired with an "excellent pacemap" at the opposite RV septum, a "poor pacemap" at the LV septum, and decapolar recordings at the RV septum that match the VT morphology.

After #LACC, does MIS still have a place in early-stage #CervicalCancer? 📉 Final LACC analysis: MIS 4.5-yr DFS 85% vs open 96% (HR 3.91) — open surgery remains the standard. 📊 But in low-risk ≤2 cm disease, MIS matched open: 5-yr OS 98.6% vs 99.3% (p=0.571).
First page of the editorial "Beyond LACC: Is There Still a Role for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Early-Stage Cervical Cancer?" by Simone Ferrero, Fabio Barra, and Valerio Gaetano Vellone, published in Clinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynecology 2026; 53(8); 53908. Two-column layout showing title, authors, affiliations (Azienda Ospedaliera Metropolitana, University of Genova, IRCCS-Istituto Giannina Gaslini, all Genoa, Italy), academic editors (Yasuhiko Ebina, Michael H.
