It’s 2025 and I’m finally getting into Lorde thanks to my nine-year-old son.

I asked a child what their fave book from last year was and their answer was a series that was published about a decade ago. A good reminder that a book is always new to a child who hasn't read it. The constant publishing hustle for novelty has nothing to do with what children want. #KidLitUK

I'm sure I will have recced this before but if you want a sweet queer historical love story with a bit of added historical context at the back (NERRRRDS I know you love it), THIS IS IT:

My hand holding "I shall never fall in love" by Hari Conner. There's a cover quote by Alice Oseman saying "I am obsessed with this book.". The cover image shows a girl with red, ringletty hair in regency dress looking at a...person of indeterminate gender dressed in masc regency dress who is giving her The Eye and also blushing a bit. The background is pale blue and has decorative images drawn in white: a paintrbrush, paint tube, a rose, a regency hat and a feather. Plus twiddles and hearts and flowers and a book and scissors that might be for sewing.

Made a deeply weird Boxing Day sandwich. Mayo, Polish potato and vegetable salad, caviar, pickled gherkins.

"... a tape Lux [Interior of the Cramps] made with some amazing Christmas Music. A song or two from the Black Christmas tape, but much more swell tunes to sink your teeth in to. Even an atheist would love it …" : www.bossradio66.com/2022/12/jeez...

The handwritten track list (way too many songs!) from Lux Interior's 'Jeezus Fuck, It's Christmas!!!' compilation tape.

I had this talk with a friend the other day. He said that AI has come for creative work first, because it’s subjective. And nobody cares that much, because there is a lot of distaste for the arts and entertainment world in this society at this time. But it CAN and WILL come for other jobs.

One of the coolest things about publishing a book in Norway is that the gov will automatically buy 1k copies, 1.5K if its a children's book, these will then be distributed to all the libraries.
