The Cane of Pacci! It was a cool, weird effect that was used in a lot of interesting ways and when you got the Roc's Cape later their powers combined in a fun way. It's pretty rare to use two items combined like this.

The Sand Rod from Link Between Worlds. A good Zelda item should open new pathways, offer new puzzle ideas, be helpful in combat, and suit both the dungeon's theme and the game's gimmick. Plus I'm a big fan of the rods/canes across the series and enjoy when the 2D games integrate vertical layers.

So much of game criticism right now is about some level of realism or coherence within a fantasy world when none of that matters. You used to play Chrono Trigger and you’d run into a talking frog and it wouldn’t be a thing, he’d just be a frog who talked in Medieval English. You’d go ok and have fun
