Job-market season hot take: Ivy League + R1 schools (yes, Michigan and Stanford, looking at you 2) should stop requiring recommendation letters from all faculty applicants. I beg you, ask at shortlist stage! Otherwise you’re wasting everyone’s time, & incentivizing AI-slop letters. What’s the point?

1/ “Ethics-first” is a comfort slogan, not a theory of wisdom in STEM #education. We argue you don’t need a moral “blueprint” before you can reason wisely in STEM contexts. The bottleneck is often #metacognitive: noticing uncertainty, checking your frame, integrating other perspectives.
