The 30 years of measurements in an ICOS station in mainland Denmark show the beech forest has captured an increasing amount of carbon annually, because the growing season lengthens with the changing climate. However, during the drought in 2018, the carbon sink was 25% smaller. #ICOS2026SC

Alisa Krasnova from University of Tartu presents 5 years of GHG flux data from a drained peatland forest in Estonia. The forest was a net sink until 2024, but became a source in 2025 after long periods of rain and flooding. Shows drained peatlands are vulnerable to climate variations. #ICOS2026SC

At the #ICOS2026SC session on GHG observations in Africa, Alfred Otom presents preliminary results on carbon dynamics and GHG exchange in papyrus wetlands in Lake Victoria, Kenya. Data shows the ecosystem was a weak carbon sink in 2025, but lots of seasonal variability present.
