📣 The GEORGE project has launched a brand new online training platform for autonomous marine observing technologies. The platform, executed as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), has been developed by @helsinki.fi, with materials produced collaboratively by the entire GEORGE consortium.

At #ICOS2026SC, Witold Tatkiewicz presented CAPASOS – a compact, low-power instrument designed to measure pCO₂ from Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs). In GEORGE, @exeter.ac.uk and #OffshoreSensing integrated #CAPASOS into a #SailBuoy USV, which completed a 60-day, 1,000+ km mission to the PAP site.

At #ICOS2026SC, Laurent Coppola presented GEORGE work combining membrane-based CO₂ and acoustic wind sensors on a #SeaExplorer glider to estimate air-sea CO₂ fluxes while profiling the upper ocean. Field trials at #DYFAMED and PAP in 2025 demonstrated the approach’s technical feasibility. 👏

Ocean sessions are now underway at #ICOS2026SC! 🌊 Antony Lucio from @noc.ac.uk presented lab-on-chip (LOC) technologies. In GEORGE, NOC develops LOC sensors for autonomous DIC and TA measurements. The work is being done also in @tricuso.bsky.social, #MaSCOt and #MARCO2 projects, among others.

Update from the GEORGE demo mission in the NW Mediterranean & #MOOSE2026 cruise on R/V #GaiaBlu 🚢 On Friday, the second #Argo float of the mission was deployed for long-term autonomous measurements near Lion. Following tradition, the float was signed by crew members before being sent on its way ✍️

🌊 The GEORGE NW MedSea deployment started last week with the deployment of Sailbuoy, carrying #CaPASOS, an instrument for autonomous #pCO2 measurements. By 7 July, it had travelled 120 km off the coastline. The journey continues until mid-July. ⛵ 👉: ow.ly/cXMo50Zlphz

🎉 The deep-sea instrument #EGIM, fitted with new sensors developed in GEORGE, was recovered on last week from nearly 5km below the surface at the Porcupine Abyssal Plain (PAP-SO) site.📍This marks the end of the multi-RI mission that began in June 2025. More pictures 👉 ow.ly/I52R50Z25Fn
