On the subject of guitars - have you seen the young Thai guitarist (and singer) whose competing in this year's America's Got Talent, Nene Royal? Her music choices aren't really my think but she seems to actually be pretty talented. Plays with a band of even younger kids back in Thailand.

One of my regrets in life is (on a visit to Italy back in the '80s) not spending what was then a huge amount of money on one of those all brass Pavone coffee makers with the pressure gauge and big lever 'cause it looked sooo cool! Would have provided lots of opportunities for tinkering too.

Have you tried an AI transcriber such as Otter? It runs as an app on your phone and gives you the transcription plus a recording.

Good luck with the house-hunting. Maybe the new, stricter, renters rights will reduce demand from property developers a bit and give you a slightly better chance.

Can anyone help me identify the #bumblebees in these pictures? I think one is a buff-tailed bumblebee, are the others ruderal bumblebees and could the larger one be a queen?

Given the problems with LVT that you highlight, why not a property tax based on the floor area of the property? The rate would be determined by the local authority so a property of a given floor area in, say, Blackpool, could still pay less than one of the same area in Knightsbridge. The data ....

Biological women have rights too, including the right to spaces in which men are not present (such as Beira's Place - a refuge for women who have been abused by men). Amnesty UK called this "anti-rights" which is patently false.

Am very grateful to have English as my mother tongue, I think it must be a nightmare to learn as a second language, especially the rules of pronunciation (otoh at least English doesn't have the complications of gender for most nouns and it has fairly simple verb endings).

We still undervalue vocational training & qualifications IMHO and I think it dates back to the collapse of the apprenticeship system that existed when Britain had a much larger industrial base. Thatcher had a big part to play - she accepted its demise without trying to create a replacement system.

ACTION: Sign the petition and tell the UK government to protect our pollinators.
The UK’s pollinator numbers are dropping heavily - we need the UK government to step in and protect them.

Do they affect the populations of small mammals or birds or does there seem to be a reasonable balance between predator and prey?
