This is infuriating. Can't stop thinking about it. For 35 yrs I've talked to experts, asked them for their time & expertise. IT IS WRONG to treat sources as Nicole was treated. Just shitty, one human to another, but also unethical and deceptive.

Any source who ever plans to talk to USA Today needs to know about this and assess whether it's worth the gamble. I've never heard of this for any publication I've worked with, but add it to the pile of unethical and dangerous practices to look out for in contracts.

Standing on a pile of gooseneck barnacles, an oystercatcher faces left and eyes the camera. It has light pink legs, a dark brown body, a black head, and a beautiful, bright red and orange beak. Its visible eye is bright yellow with a tiny black pupil and a ring of bright red flesh surrounding it - the same color as its beak.

You don't run a marathon to get somewhere 26 miles away. A car can do that much faster. The running is the point, every hard step. I feel sincerely sad for anyone who skips steps in writing using an LLM. You're robbing yourself along with your audience. Yes, it's hard. But it's also so much fun.

IT'S RAINING. All I want to do is listen to it, walk in it, feel it on my face and hear it on my roof. Despite the long days, I'll never be a summer person. Summer in the Pacific Northwest can be pretty, but it feels wrong because it's dry. This is a wet place. Rain turns it back into itself.

I don't use LLMs, but I've been guilty of accidentally hyping them by calling them "AI". They're not, and every time we call them that, even to oppose them, we hand companies trying to replace labor with algorithms a win. Get in losers, we're calling LLMs what they are - models, not intelligence.

Wake up, babe. The Prime Minister just dropped “hydronym”.
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

I'm not sharing the video, because it shows people dying. I don't think videos of death should be shown without consent to watch them. But I do think everyone should watch it by choice, and look hard at the photos. The climate crisis is killing people now. It will kill and harm so many more.
