Linking drought strategy to climate of origin in a widespread C4 grass: hydraulic traits, xylem anatomy and stomatal behaviour in Themeda triandra Jacob et al. @vin-jacob.bsky.social @ianjwright.bsky.social @coeplantsuccess.bsky.social nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Figure 1. Three-panel figure showing summer climate across the eight Australian Themeda triandra study populations. (A) Map of mean summer temperature (°C), with cooler areas shown in blue and warmer areas in yellow to red; study populations are marked by open circles and labelled. (B) Map of mean summer precipitation (mm), with lower precipitation shown in brown/orange and higher precipitation in blue; the same population locations are marked. (C) Scatterplot of mean summer precipitation against mean summer temperature for the eight populations, with points labelled by population. Populations span broad climatic gradients, ranging from approximately 16–32 °C in temperature and 70–430 mm in precipitation; mean summer temperature and precipitation were not significantly related.

Would anyone know what species of Eucalyptus this is? Possibly from #Australia. Is it Eucalyptus tereticornis (Forest Red Gum)? Someone has planted one near primary jungle & spiderhunters are enjoying the nectar. Trying to document this new food source. Thanks.

We are searching for a PhD student! Are you curious and excited to unravel how #root #exudation varies between species, how this relates to the root economics space and if and how it explains ecosystem functioning and species distribution in #grasslands?
Conceptual graphic of the project aims. Depicted is a schematic of the root economics space (RES) with added exudation traits (Work Package 1: integrating exudates into the root economics space). The lower, brown-colored half of the background shows labels such as soil nutrients, soil pH, and soil moisture, with arrows (effects) pointing toward the RES (Work Package 2: environmental filtering of exudation strategies). The upper, green-colored half shows labels such as productivity, carbon cycling, greenhouse gas, and nutrient cycling, with arrows (effects) pointing from the RES toward this area (Work Package 3: effects of exudation strategies on ecosystem functions). Pictograms of a cow, a tractor, and a fertilizer bag signify land-use effects that mediate these interactions.
