Medical update: Docs say I have a Systemic Autoinflammatory Disease. They’re waiting on the results from the genetic testing (which may take months) to give a specific diagnosis. They’ve started me on immunosuppressants to get my immune system to calm down & stop attacking my lungs and heart.

Finally home from thirteen days in hospital. CT scans, X-Rays, PET Scan, Pleural Biopsies, IV antibiotics, a metric ton of anti-inflammatories and an incalculable amount of blood tests. Back on Tuesday for follow up with Rheumatologist and hopefully a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Strongly agree. I have so far found that downloading all of the apps seems to give a marginally better experience but it really should be as simple as plug in, tap contactless card, press to stop.

Today marks the end of my first week in hospital. The doctors still can’t figure out what’s causing the chest pain and fluid on my lungs. It’s beginning to feel like living through an episode of House, albeit with a lot less sexual tension.

I couldn’t sleep so I’m in A&E. The booking in nurse told me it would take 8 hours to see a doctor for them to approve sending me for an X-ray. I used my best charm with the triage nurse, she’s sending me for an X-ray, giving me some painkillers and I can come back tomorrow morning for the results.

I think I’ve cracked the case (pun intended). I am 90% sure that I broke a rib over five months ago. Everything since has been caused by that, the chest pain, the breathlessness, the pleural effusion. I’m going to A&E in the morning to get an X-ray to find out for sure. That would be a result!

Of all the ailments I’ve experienced in my life having fluid on my lungs (bilateral plural effusion) is by far the worst. On bad days it’s almost completely debilitating. Walking from one room to another leaves me out of breath and in agony. It’s making being the main caregiver over the holidays fun

I find myself in Premier Inn in Tolworth. This is the soap dispenser in the bathroom. My kids are asleep so I attempted to complain online, directed to WhatsApp, then given an email address for the hotel. Sent email and the inbox is full. *slow clap*

They removed about 750ml of fluid from around my right lung. Back in a couple of weeks for results of the tests they carry out on it. Feeling quite rubbish now, more breathless, more pain. Hopefully temporary.

Back to the hospital again for another follow-up. This time with the respiratory department. When I arrived the Doctor said “You’re here for us to drain some fluid from your lungs.”. I said, “Oh. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time.” 😱 Procedure was far less unpleasant than I imagined

More medical fun times. Woke up with a sore eye on Monday, by the evening it was very sensitive to light. Went to UTC on Tuesday, diagnosed with Uveitis, prescribed three types of eyedrops. This morning everything felt fine and I walked my eldest to school in the sunshine. Thanks to the NHS!
