Google reduced our headline “I used the ‘cheat on everything’ AI tool and it didn’t help me cheat on anything” to just five words: “‘Cheat on everything’ AI tool.” It almost sounds like we’re endorsing a product we do not recommend at all. Read more from @seanhollister.bsky.social:

Earlier this week Smith and Sniff was sitting at number 129 in the chart of all podcasts. All podcasts. Every single one. And our shite. Considering Gary Lineker's company alone makes about 128 different podcasts, we're quite proud of that. Thank everyone.

I see this is back on iPlayer. My then boss (now retired) David Hay appears in it, and we all contributed lots of images, footage and information. It’s a great programme and, I’m told, one of the most popular episodes of the Timeshift strand.

Astonishing story of a DAB radio service having its IP transmission stream hijacked by its own streaming vendor to broadcast obscenities instead of the radio output for *30* mins! Seemingly, because of a contract dispute between the vendor & another mux provider! www.ofcom.org.uk/siteassets/r...

I supported putting a break in the Circle Line at Edgware Road. But they should've changed its name. With the break it's not a circle. It's wrong and it's still not too late to rename it. If they called it the Marigold Line they wouldn't even need to change the colour on the map.

Very sad to hear of the passing of John Virgo. He never aged for me behind the microphone as the voice of Snooker. An absolute great.

This is an unpopular position but: having worked with him a bit, I always thought Tim Davie was a highly competent leader and given his commercial instincts, was probably the best person to lead the BBC through its next charter renewal. I think this is very bad news for anyone who values the BBC.

For the design nerds, here's Network Rail's official design manual for Rail Clock It incorporates a sonic pigeon deterrent. www.networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/u...
4.9.3 Pigeon Deterrents
Sonic deterrents incorporated inside hanging bracket
casing to be directed at the top of the clock to prevent
pigeons from perching on the clock.
No physical deterrents should be deployed.

I remember reading this news and turning to the guy in the university computer lab, and saying: "that's interesting, Apple have released a hard disk that can play music". Also, it's odd that the iPod and Windows XP were released in the same week (iPod Tue 23 Oct 2001, XP Thu 25 Oct 2001).

Not blaming James for this, but a side-effect of this piece of bluffery is a lot of people on Bluesky claiming that "DNS is down" (it's not), and that that today's problems are being caused by a "massive cyber attack" (unproven, fairly unlikely, but possible).
