These are probably the best Cranky Dorkfest photos I took of aircraft on final. Stayed over on the south side of the airport for longer so a lot of photos are of the insides of the UA Dreamliner, DL 321neo, and AA 321XLR that were parked there.

In my (middle, so no pics) seat AUS-LAX to this year's Cranky Dorkfest. Let's see who else on here is headed the same way.

Would be cool is the biz/premium seats cost fewer SkyPesos, vs. just bumping existing normal fares up, but I'm sure that's asking too much.

The SpaceX IPO filing is a joke, but the joke is on anyone with a retirement account linked to the stock market. It’s specially designed to offload the company’s liabilities onto the public. After pilfering the public by taking NASA IP, repackaging it as their own, and undermining real space faring.

Innocent me: think that I'll do a quick #duolingo lesson while I wait. Aggro Owl: If you don't do a lesson now, I will find you, I'll see you driven before me, and I'll hear the lamentations of your women.

It’s no big surprise that Trump’s DOJ is deleting all of the January 6th press releases from its website. Here’s the thing: I downloaded all of them in Feb. 2025 (that’s right, more than a year ago) suspecting that they’d do just that. And we’re working to post them all online, as are others.

Expired: Checking in on Southwest at T-24 to get a less crappy boarding position. Wired: Checking seat availability at T-48 to get the "free extra legroom seats if available for everyone on the reservation" benefit on the Priority card. Availability for this AUS-ORD trip was good too.

I still use Sonnet 4.6 for stuff, but Copilot multipliers are twice as bad for Opus 4.7 as for GPT-5.5 at this point and the amount per premium request unit I can get done for each seems comparable so...

Ian Littman @ian.im · 12/05/2026
Yeah, since I've used Zed for the past nearly-a-year I'm more model agnostic, at least until the end of the month when my Copilot sub goes usage based. At which point the subsidy is probably bigger on OAI so $20 there and $20 on Claude might be enough. Plus Ollama and OpenCode Go subs for openweight

Ian Littman @ian.im · 12/05/2026
IMO Claude is the more thorough reviewer. GPT-5.5 seems fine for writing code now in my experience (have used it since the day it landed on Copilot).

A good cautionary tale for when someone claims that trusting data analysis done with an LLM is good because it’s “objective.” In this example, Copilot apparently decided to ignore the data it was given and just run with all the subconscious biases its (human-made) training data inevitably gave it.

Tbh "we have some underutilized AI data centers when others don't" is helpful here, as is "we currently have no reasonable competition for satellite internet, and have direct to cell in the pipeline as well* is even more helpful. The valuation may have some bearing on space DCs but not all.

Also if we are talking about training workloads there probably isn't any energy left over and if there was you would spin down the generators rather than exporting the power because these things will *not* be cheap to run.

AI produces MORE editorial labor, not less. “[To weed out slop] the journal doubled its deputy editors from 6 to 11 & nearly doubled its sr editors from roughly 30 to 60. All of this is volunteer labor, unpaid academics donating time to maintain scientific quality.“ www.forbes.com/sites/johndr...

In the US, there's plenty of land taken up by SFH that's located such that denser housing would work fine there. There's also a solid chunk of low-density retail and such that could be repurposed for the same thing. A lot of apartments near me in Austin replaced the latter.

Yeah, I'm generally keeping LLM related posting to LinkedIn (to be clear, I'm writing every word of that by hand) because the ground there has been thoroughly salted. Thing with being in Austin is I kinda can't get away from The Discourse, including in person, and it's...kinda overwhelming :(

I want to remind everyone that the president posted a picture of himself as Jesus and, when enough people complained, deleted it, saying he thought it was a picture of him as a doctor. By his own account, the best case scenario is that he's so far gone he doesn't know what a doctor is anymore

So - astonishingly - Iran has been paying attention to history, notably the Millennium Challenge exercise, which was originally an Iran war game, and in which US Marine Col. Paul van Riper, playing the baddies, handed an invading US force its hat with both its ears in it BY DOING THIS.
Text: The Iranian close to the regime said the Revolutionary Guards were behaving more like a militant group in their effort to take on the world's most sophisticated and powerful armies
- abandoning their bases and scattering in order to reduce the risk of being hit while launching retaliatory attacks.

Senate Commerce hearing on Section 230. And, uh, this is big. Not giving him any credit, but Ted Cruz was really the first Senator to be vocally anti-230 and calling for repeal a decade ago. And here he is saying "whoa, repeal might be bad." That's big. www.commerce.senate.gov/2026/3/liabi...
Chairman Cruz Announces Hearing to Debate the Future of Section 230

WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a full committee hearing titled “Liability or Deniability? Platform Power as Section 230 Turns 30” on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10:00 am EST. Thirty years after enactment of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, this hearing will take testimony from legal experts on the role Section 230 has played in the digital era. Witnesses will discuss how Section 230 affects the regulation of online expression and conduct, as well as the constitutional limits on congressional policymaking imposed by the First Amendment.

Upon announcing the hearing, Sen. Cruz said: “Big Tech—the most powerful companies on Earth—can exercise monopoly power to make views they dislike disappear and that should scare everyone. When it comes to viewpoint suppression, however, repealing section 230 might increase censorship. I look forward to hearing from our witnesses and discussing possible reforms to section 230 so online platforms are a free and open marketplace for ideas.”

Witnesses:

Ms. Daphne Keller, Director of Platform Regulation, Program in Law, Science, and Technology, Stanford Law School
Ms. Nadine Farid Johnson, Policy Director, Knight First Amendment Institute
Mr. Matthew Bergman, Founding Attorney, Social Media Victims Law Cente
