If I had a dollar for every time I made a Grice joke, I'd have two dollars. Not *exactly* two dollars, of course; I'd be loaded

If indicative conditionals don't share the truth conditions of the corresponding material ones, you'd have to be a damn fool to think otherwise.

the MAIN thing is that i'm right. what i actually said, and what i could have meant by that are tedious details. but all these ASSHOLES keep talking about what i actually said, and what i could have meant by that, instead of focusing on the MAIN thing. that i'm RIGHT

checking out all the automated math proofs and feeling *pretty* smug about being a philosopher who never put any proofs in my papers and just sorta reckoned the relative weights of various non-demonstrative considerations

why can't people recognise when i'm joking unless my tongue is in my cheek. it's sore from being tucked in there all day. and then frankly no-one can understand what i'm saying anyway

It is no longer possible to experience any sense of accomplishment. Accomplishment is something a computer does for you.

[me, reading a paper i wholly disagree with] interpretative charity demands that the negation operators prefixing each sentence (presumably suppressed by the authors for brevity) be taken as read

To be or not to be: a quandary Hamlet might well have avoided had he been an intuitionist.

Yes, I am "living in the moment". Notice that, in this moment, I am still alive.

among the most effective ways to get the things you want is to want the things you get. a point familiar to philosophers, but strangely enough, not to authors of self-help books; then again, if everyone knew such things the self-help industry would be in deep trouble

god i hate being objectified by other queer men. if there's one thing i can't stand it's being treated like the referent of a singular term – as if 'the concept horse' taught us nothing

For the record, I do not believe that Hegel was a bullshitter, and I am too ignorant of the work of Heidegger to say whether or not he was a bullshitter. But I agree with my late supervisor Gilbert Ryle that Heidegger was a shit. I once asked Ryle whether he had continued to study Heidegger after he had written a long review of Being and Time in Mind. Ryle’s reply: ‘‘No, because when the Nazis came to power, Heidegger showed that he was a shit, from the heels up, and a shit from the heels up can’t do good philosophy.’’ (Experience has, alas, induced me to disagree with the stated Rylean generalization.)

poor atlas. imagine having to carry the weight of the, uh - checks notes - totality of facts on one's shoulders? sounds like a real drag

Undeniably Messi, like Maradona, is among the greatest products of Argentine football – some might say, its ultraproducts. The Silver Ball Fifa awarded him today just underscores that even at 39, he isn't Łoś'd yet.
